Now that we have covered the main features of changing the theme, I want to share a great feature that many theme developers do not provide.
When you create a post or page, you are provided manyLayout different options for how you wish the post or page to appear.
The Layout Box Appears Directly Above The Featured Image Box on the page where you are creating or editing a particular post or page.
You can choose the number of footer widgets you wish to display on that particular post or page.
ThePage Builder Container allows you to set full width or contained.
Disable elements allows you to hide your title if you wish.
And the sidebars area allows you to select rather you wish to have sidebars or not, how many sidebars you want to have, and also how you wish to arrange the sidebars.
This image shows how a page appears with Content / Sidebar option, the Content is placed on the left with the Right Sidebar placed on the right.
This is how a page appears with Sidebar / Content / Sidebar
And this is with Sidebar / Sidebar / Content
You may be wondering why someone would want to make changes on individual pages or posts instead of using the same design throughout the entire website.
There's various reasons why one may wish one page or post to be set differently than the rest, for instance:
Policy pages are best viewed with nothing else, so they could be set as Content (no sidebars)
Some review pages are best set this way as well, so that the site visitors is not deterred away from the product or service you are reviewing.
Content / Sidebar is generally best for most posts, but if the post covers something where you hope to gain a sale, then you could set the left sidebar to display select ads.
Then you could choose to have that page set with the Sidebar / Content / Sidebar or Sidebar / Sidebar / Content option.
There are many ways you can make use of all of the features of this theme, to create a site that is not only professional and beautiful, but one that is also optimized for high speed and visitor usability for both desktops and mobile devices.
This concludes this tutorial covering the free version of the GeneratePress WordPress theme.
I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial and find the information useful. I am here to help in any way that I am able, so please, if you have any questions then post them in the discussion area below and I will answer as quickly as I am able.
Your feedback about this tutorial is greatly appreciated, it helps me determine what types of tutorials and courses I should consider creating in the future.
If you have any tutorial or course requests, then let me know. I can't make any promises because it may be something not in an area of expertise that I am knowledgeable about, but if it is, I will do my best!
Thanks for the training. I have a question.
Does the free version of GeneratePress have the author box?
Recently, I switched to GeneratePress (free version), and I no longer have the author box on my post.
The theme that I was using before had the author box.
I was informed that it is available in GP, and I was to add a new user (as an author).
I watched the video that was sent to me, and I tried several times, but was unsuccessful.
I am currently using an author box Plug in.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Blessings
Jackie
I have a question: when you select content/sidebar for only one post and then create a widget with ads for the sidebar, would the ad appear only in that post or on any other post with the same format content/sidebar.
Thanks. Marisa
This course is excellent and very easy to follow. Your images explain it all too! Thank you.
2 questions:
Not long ago, I was having trouble with not getting my logo to show up. Members and SiteSupport could see my logo but I couldn't see it at all on my laptop and my friends who live in remote locations also couldn't see it.
It was only after I put my logo in Retina Logo, I was finally able to see my logo and my friends could see it too.
Do you know why that is? I know I should just be content and be thankful my logo can be seen by people outside of WA but I just want to understand why I had to put my logo in Retina Logo.
My other question is, will you be doing a course on the Premium Generate Press?
I want to make my static page a little more elaborate with more helpful information. So I guess, my desire to make this page more diversified and I believe that comes with the design features of this theme.
Thank you, Maria and I look forward to more of your courses.
Have a Blessed day.
Monica
