Comment settings

• Anyone posts a comment
  

This setting determines the situations in which the WordPress author and / or administrator receives an e-mail.

• A comment is held for moderation
  

If the author wants to be informed about each reaction, then tick this option. Otherwise you leave the relevant box empty. If this option is checked, the writer will also receive an e-mail as a returning visitor has placed a comment. Even if a response from this visitor has already been admitted.

• Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 1 or more links. (A common characteristic of comment spam is a large number of hyperlinks.)
  

You can also - or only - choose to have the administrator receive a message when a response is waiting for moderation.

If there are more than one administrator, the e-mail will only be sent to you as specified in Settings >> General.

If you do not want emails about moderation to be sent to the administrator, but to the author, you can set this up via a plug-in such as Comment Moderation E-mail only to Author. This is especially useful for blogs with multiple writers.

Before a comment appears

• Comment must be manually approved
  

If you want to assess every comment personally and allow it manually, then tick this box.

• Comment author must have a previously approved comment
  

If a visitor has already been allowed a response in the past, this is in fact a well-known visitor. This option gives you the opportunity to simply let future reactions from known visitors through. With these comments, personal verification is not necessary.

Note: WordPress checks the e-mail address here. A returning visitor who has changed his email address in the meantime will be treated as a new visitor.

Unlike a name, an e-mail address is always unique.

Comment moderation

• Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 1 or more links.
  

Spam messages are sometimes full of links to YouTube videos, counterfeit branded articles and dubious drugs. With this option, you place responses in the queue if they contain more than x links.You may decide for yourself what the value of x should be

Keep in the moderation queue box

You can use the text box to direct responses to the moderation queue. You can place names, words, parts of words, IP addresses and e-mail addresses in this text box. You put one term on each line. Responses containing one or more of these terms must then be assessed for admission.
