Once we have set a large goal we need to actually grab a pen and paper and work out some variables.

In this instance of 300 referrals we need to figure out the following.

1/ Completion percentage 2/ Social database needed 3/ sources and 4/ Time to complete goal

1/ Completion percentage In business or sales we can only hope to get a conversion rate of 1-3%, for this example we are going to pick a 2% rate.

2/ Social Database needed In order to get a 2% conversion we need to put in our referrals needed, in this case 300 and work out the following. 300 = 2% of what number. This is quite easy to figure out for those with no math background. If 300 is 2% of a number then 150 would be 1% of a number and 1% of any number is to multiply it by 100 so 150 X 100 is 15000, yep thats 15000 people, thats ok we will get to that.

3/ Sources What areas or sources do we have to achieve this goal, thats family and friends, WA, web sites, facebook, twitter, tumbler, G+, Pinterest and any other sources that you can think of.

4/ Time Ok time needs to be figured out and factored into the working units that you can work in, are you going to look at this each month, so thats 4. Maybe its weeks, thats 19 or maybe days...it's an amount that will work for you.

5/ These variables can be....well variable depending on your goal. The BEGIN technique will not work on intangible goals where we cannot measure variables.

So we have

300 referrals

15000 database

Our sources

Time at 19 weeks

Thats 790 contacts reached per week or 132 contacts based on 6 days a week (choose your days)

Wow, this is a great one. I love acronyms! That makes your points easy to remember. Breaking down our goals make them more achievable. Thanks for sharing, Mikey!

Excellent way to present this. I am big on goal setting and looking at my goals and tasks every single day. Sort of "How to Eat an Elephant.... one bite at a time". It is important to break down goals into bite size pieces so that we can avoid paralysis. Way to go here.! Actually never thought of using benchmarks, but maybe I am just not there yet. Don't even have the site completed, lol.

I would say you are I are the Goal Setting people here. Good job. It is taking the end goal and working backwards! How many people do I need to refer a month, a week, a day, even an hour to get to 300 by the end of the year.

And that all is mathematics! Great job!
