  • Ease of use of their editing interface
  • Quality of training offered
  • Availablility and quality of AB testing, tracking, and reports provided
  • Integrations, such as with WordPress and Social Media
  • Ability to produce landing pages compatible with your site
  • Polls and Survey features
  • Whether they have an Affiliate program

You are correct. Autoresponders are a complicated service so it is advisable to work with companies that specialize in that (like Aweber or MailChimp).
