What? Why would I want to do that? Here’s the thing, we spend a huge amount of time on that first paragraph because we want to captivate the reader and make them want to read the rest of the content. If we write this first, we often get stuck on that opening paragraph. I once knew someone who spent a WEEK writing their introductory paragraph, an entire week. They were just stuck there.
There are a number of great reasons to write the introduction last:
- In some ways, the introduction is a captivating summary of the page or post you are writing. So if it is a summary, you should write it after you finish the rest of the post so you summarize it accurately.
- Once you write the blog post you will feel geared up and you will write a better introduction.
- Writing the difficult introduction last means you will write something easier first and that will motivate you to write more! There is nothing worse than an empty page to de-motivate you.
So leave the introduction to your page or post until the end!
