What makes a quality blog post? In this section of the training we are going to take a look at producing a quality article. There is no point in taking the 30 day blogging challenge and producing lots of low quality articles. This would not be good for both your search engine results and also the readers of your blog.

Below you will find training from both Kyle and Jay that will help you in producing quality theme based content that converts. Remember, we are not only trying to boost our traffic and search engine position, we are also trying to get conversions as well.

Check out the training from Kyle if you need a reminder about writing themed content.

And here Jay helps us to produce review based content with the intention of getting conversions.

How long does your post need to be?

There is evidence that longer blog posts rank better within the search results. However, it’s also important to write naturally and not make them look too artificial. There is evidence to suggest that posts below 300 words are not taken as seriously as posts over that amount. However, a good ball park figure should be to aim for over 800 words per article. Personally I don’t like to publish content that is under 1000 words. But remember that comments also make up part of the content within your blog post too. So if you have exhausted every content producing avenue then perhaps you might want to boost your content with a few comments too.

How to ensure that you have produced quality content

When producing content I always use a process that I have memorized. This helps me to create posts that get all the points across that I want and also ensures that the blog post is a decent length too.

When carrying out research for your blog posts, try to look from the point of view of the reader. What would the reader of your blog post want to know? Whilst planning your post it might help you to make a list of features, benefits, pros and cons. Depending on your niche and what your post is about, that list might be quite long. You might also look for videos on YouTube or any of your previous posts that you can link into your article.

When putting the article together I nearly always follow the same process. Start with an introduction, saying who you are and what you are going to be talking about within the article. In order to get a good article length you don’t want to give everything away right at the beginning. Ask questions that the reader might be thinking about and then provide answers within the main body of your article. Present your findings, pros, cons and features. Sometimes it helps to create bullet points.

The final section of your blog post should be your call to action. Think about what you would like the reader to get out of reading your article and where you want them to go next. Do you want to direct them to another post, perhaps a review or even to purchase something? The last part of your article needs to close the deal. Your reader should never be left wondering what to do next.

Remember, quality content can be a mixture of both text, video, images, audio and comments. Planning a mix of different content types for your blog posts is a very good idea.

Remember the process of building a blog post.

  • Start with an introduction.
  • Introduce yourself and the subject that you are discussing.
  • Outline the pros and cons, features or facts.
  • Lead into your final conclusion.
  • End your article with a call to action.

Next we are going to take a look at on page search engine optimization.

Challenge accepted. I will post 1 posts per day for 4 days each for 4 weeks. I am one of those people who works best when challenged or I have to be accountable. This is perfect for me to get back on that 'roll'. Thank you so much, Andrew.

Hey Andrew,
I am guilty of attempting to put the cart before the horse. Somehow I missed the qualification 'must have completed the certification training'. Unfortunately I have not (Course 3 Lesson 5)
and this has certainly prompted me to finish the training.

When I finish the training I will challenge myself because I know I could benefit from the push. In the mean time I will double my website content creation from 1X per week to 2X per week.

I'm giving you all the credit for this concept, thx for waking me up.!!

Cheers,
Mark
