Read this today, could the King of Traffic be about to put the brakes on to the life blood of most blogs?

Have you other sources of traffic embedded, if not the time to think outside the box may be critical?

I'm sure its all huff and puff but who knows were the markets will take us this year, the next or further down the road.

Interested to hear your thoughts on where to place your trust.

Update:reworded the title when some thought they were really banning it. My bad, was just letting you guys know of what was posted out there. Read the article and make your own minds up.

In the article, it doesn’t say they will ban links. The “killer” is their own rating algorithm for products. The article claims that google will feature snippets from your content, but link to their own product pages.

Firstly, they will probably include links to the original review, driving more traffic to your pages.

Secondly, this will only be for e-commerce products, and won’t likely affect service reviews and other “niche” products. (Slow cooker reviews versus Wealthy Affiliate).

Lastly, they can never recreate (with AI) the amazing reviews a great affiliate marketer can produce. They just can’t make a 2,000 word review with images, text, and video in an engaging way.

We are the experts. Formatting your review to be human, engaging, and helpful is how we add value to the process.

This move might take some revenue from Amazon, but then maybe Amazon should pay their affiliates better!

Overall, I think this is just a change, and not a catastrophe! We may even find some benefits.

Thanks for these clarifications!!

Great points Nathaniell

Spoken like a real expert! Deeper thoughts and insights you gave. Thanks for throwing more light.

Thank you so much Nathaniell for your input much appreciated.

It makes more sense the way you have put it.

One thing is I think that Kyle and Carson are on it. if there is anything to be concerned about they will let us know.

Have a great day

Jennifer

Yes I put that in the title to provoke a response. I'm sure Google will treat it all with sense otherwise they could be in hot water.

So true

Thanks for sharing.

I think there will always be a way to monetise a website. What I see happening, is the demise of search engines as we see them now.

We will have to keep up with the inevitable changes and adapt or die!

The digital market place isn't going away any time soon. It is always evolving, and I think search engine companies will be careful not to kill the golden goose.

Agreed, though there will always be a place for search engines. May not look like they do now but they will exist.

Thanks for this.

No problem.

Hi Tommo!

It is hard to say how Google will approach this matter. However, it is a very interesting and important issue. We'll see and be surprised about what comes next!

Thanks for mentioning it and posting your reminder!

Best regards,
Igor

It all sounds a bit suspect but it just reminds us to be careful with where we place all our work.

Thanks for sharing Mark.

Interesting article. Keeping abreast of what's happening in the world of technology is so important especially when changes can affect our online business.

The problem is there are so many ways and so speedily the changes it's hard to keep up.

Mark,

Thanks for sharing that with us here.

I do share in the concerns expressed by you as well as throughout the article, however, I do also think that as a counter to Google's move to cherry pick their own chosen products and services they will run into some heavy regulatory headwinds by the FTC.

Aside from de facto being a monopoly in the search engine space and the other gamut of platforms they run and control, it is not likely that the federal regulators will allow such a thinly veiled attempt to drive traffic to their own selected products and services. Conflict of interests, deceiving the public for own gain, self dealing, etc. will not be easily ignored.

Most of the social media platforms will become subject to federal government regulations and that will restore the free market aspect in that space.

That is just my humble opinion and prediction.

Future proves past.

Blessings!

I agree, the government will not allow such a one-sided strategy but it does concern us that they may make life a bit more difficult to get the page one traffic.

I doubt it'll be as bad as the article claims...But...Things evolve...So will we...Affiliate Marketing is here to stay,,,Just maybe not in the same form we know it

Yes Dean there would be an awful uproar if Google was able to do this.

Imagine if millions of affiliates all said...."Ok...You wanna play that game Google?....How about we all take adsense off our sites and install adblocker for YouTube and use our talents to promote adblocker across the internet?.".....Google would be kicking a hornets nest if they started playing with affiliates...

Thanks for sharing Tommo, I was not aware of this, Alan

It may not come about but who knows where the rules will take us in the future. Always good to open options.

I know I could do without google, facebook, and amazon.

Mark

Really, not sure I can but may have to work around them somehow.

It's interesting and your post reflects my earlier one

Its certainly time to start looking at alternative ways of promotion, which thankfully I have been doing for some time

Let's see where it takes us

Where has your research taking you can you share? For me, I made decent movement in traffic from Pinterest.
