Have I chosen the wrong Niche
I have posted this as a question, but thought I would blog a s well to see if I can gather any other perspectives. Currently I am thinking that I may have chosen the wrong niche to go with. Let me explain.
Maybe it is me just not understanding.
My niche is books for classic cars.
So for example I have written a piece on the Lotus Europa. I did a search on "Lotus Europa book" in Jaaxy, this gave me a QSR of 12 and an average of 32. So from that I took it that this is a low used key word.
However, if I put that into google there are 3,950,000 sites using it, if I understand this correctly.
The top one being Amazon, the exact place I want to put links as an affiliate for their books.
On this basis, I will never get near enough to the top for people to use my site rather than go direct to Amazon, or one of the other sites selling classic car books.
Am I going about this the wrong way, or just made a bad choice for my first go at this.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Tom

hmmm...books for classic cars .....are they a product or can you use them in a sentence ' i want to help _____ with ______'
who are you writing for, what help is hte product you are promoting...
there is nothing wrong with books on classic cars, but it is a bit unbounded... you can cover anything from how ot setup suspension in a 1910 bugatti, or hte complete manual for a 1980 ford escort....but would you talk to both of those in the same manner...
yes they are both enthusiasts and either new owners of potential owners...
os maybe narrow the niche to start with and concentrate on an era you like or know and then expand from there...
the difference between jaaxy and google is not suprising as google is matching 'lotus' or 'europa' or 'book' or any combination of any words...so to narrow it to being like jaaxy what you do is use quotes "lotus europa book" may narrow the number of results.... i now get 10 results...or 71 if i now go to the end and include all hte results - but this is from the UK...
looking at the results, google is looking for book sales rather than reviews...
when you say you wrote a piece on the lotus what did you mean...did it solve a problem the owners or admirers are looking for...
You didn't choose the wrong niche, but you did search your keyword in Google the wrong way.
The actual Google results are 458, not 3,950,000. You didn't search your keyword in Google by using quotes.
Look at the screenshot of my Google search using your keyword with quotes. Remember QSR stands for Quoted Search Results.
Nice to see you more active again Robert....
with your search was the country United States....
Hey Phil,
I come and go as far as activity here within WA. I focus more time and energy on my earnings.
Yes, the country was the United States. My results were the same as Tom's at 3,950,000.
However when searching a keyword on Google, you must use quotes. That's why I then got 458.
I hope your business is going well...
my search from the UK returned only 10 results...
just highlighting hte fact that region can also make a major difference to the google results...
thanks for the update..
Hey Tom, don't worry about Amazon. People who are looking to buy anything online look for reviews. Deeper reviews where someone somewhere on the planet can convince them to buy that product. Amazon is not going to do that. This is where you and your site come in! Your blog will do the job of convincing your visitor that they should go for that book. I'm not very sure about the jaaxy stuff so I will leave it to others to comment. I have another point for you though. Amazon does not have great commission percentage when it comes to books so you might want to look elsewhere to get some affiliate links to sell their books, videos, training, etc which will have a higher percentage of commision. Just a side note. But again commission percentage even if small can get you a sizable income if the numbers are huge. So it's kind of balance. But end point, whatever it is you need to focus on your site and content that will bring in visitors and conversions to sales. Hope it helps.
Hello Tom. No, I don't think you have chosen the wrong niche. Delve deeper and don't let one setback put you off. You will have many more to come - learn from them and keep at it. The rewards will follow if you do this.
Enjoy your day.
Best,
Paul

Don't concern yourself with "Lotus Europa book" write content on the Lotus Europa targeting other less competitive keywords. Then link to the book on Amazon within your content.
Readers will come to your article when they search for those particular keywords. Then, if they have an interest, may click your link to purchase the book.
Read the WA blog posts by ParthB. He covers how to find awesome keywords in any niche, no matter how competitive. Click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of your WA dashboard and type in ParthaB it will bring up all of his posts.
Hope that helps,
Rex
