Farewell and Godspeed
Hi, everyone. Hope you are doing well and staying safe from COVID nasties!
My W.A. account renews on Black Friday, but I've decided to not continue. I, unfortunately, am 3 years into my website and still can't say I've earned more than $100, tho' I've written over 300,000 words and have a loyal following.
From what I can tell, my lack of monetization is coming from the fact that musicians are typically not financially well-off, so they don't use my affiliate links.
I'm certainly not going to throw away my many, many posts on seriousgasdotcom though, and accompanying YouTube channel. There's years of my life there!!
Instead, I'm going to a cheaper $100 a year hosting platform that will allow me to not LOSE as much money every year 'til I can figure out a way to earn through my efforts.
I'm halfway through writing my first eBook. I hope to finish that by mid-December and then start selling my OWN product online, which will give recording musicians great value and instruction. Here's hoping it makes all the difference.
Thanks to W.A. and all of Kyle's fine instruction that got me up and going in ONE MONTH.
Also, big shout out to NinJAY and his continuing efforts to weekly teach us the hundreds of facets of this industry. Definitely a highlight of what W.A. offers.
A big lesson I've learned is you won't always succeed quickly. If you're committed to something, it won't matter though. Don't get into this as a fad, or a get-rich-quick scheme - do this because you KNOW you'll be good at it and you KNOW you can enrich the world with what you can offer.
I'll stil be working hard now, for the rest of my life, on my site. Leaving is just my way of being financially sound and rolling with the changes.
May you all succeed much quicker than I will. You'll do so by never... giving... up.
Best of success to you all from all your efforts!!
Tj

We do hope your eBook takes off so you can increase your earnings.
We wish you much success.
Tj hi, before you go, you're welcome to PM me and show me your site. I'd be happy to take a look and share what I think can done.
I know that feeling of not having a profitable site but I've been on both ends of that. This stuff truly does work but sometime we just need an adjustment in direction.
You've looked several times and suggested things I was already doing, Vitaliy.
Once, when I shared I was getting no monetization, you did say to change my font.
Sorry, but I thought that was ludicrous. You really think that my website (which MANY still comment on & say they really enjoy it and think it's awesome) is suddenly going to bring more money in because I change my font?!
That kind of "advice" comes across as missing the point, not addressing the big picture and not caring enough to take the time to really suss out what's needed.
Regardless, thank you for the time you DID take to write me back several times. Best of success to you from all your efforts.

So I took a look at our history and there was a lot more advice on what to do. In fact, changing the font advice I gave was important because your content and paragraphs were spaced out and it was tough to read. I suggested adjusting it to make it better (among other tips such as interlinking and writing guitar reviews).
But I'd be happy to take another look if you want TJ. That offer is still on the table if you change your mind but if not, no worries, wishing you all the best.
Yes, I looked at all your replies. But they were things that I had already tried, with no upswing in monetization. I’ve used at least 10 different themes with all kinds of fonts, colors, page layouts. Nothing brought the bacon. I concur with others who’ve said it’s my demographic - musicians 1) tend to be economically strapped, and 2) they tend to want to PLAY before they buy, which means going to a real local store. But feel free to look again. Serious gas.com. With my first eBook I hope to turn the tables on this “waste of money”. There’s GOT to be a way... !
That's a pity and I don't think I'll stay that long if I don't earn some money. Isn't it funny how some people just get the right traffic and others don't. All the best for your future endeavours. You could move your site somewhere that will host it cheaply, just in case it takes off in the future.
Yea, that's what I'm doing Geoffrey. $100 a year means
I'll be losing a LOT less. Hopefully, with my new book release soon, it'll be a moot point since I'll finally be PROFITABLE!! ;-)

All the best with your ebook and the new hosting. Thank you for your honesty here. Wishing you future success and that you achieve what you set out to Tj :)

I prefer the honesty route always. There’s too much “hype” on the Web these days. As the movie said... “show me the money!’ LoL
There really is! All the best :)
