Is there a name for this aversion to all things 'computer'?
Hello again WA.
Well, it's been several months since I sat here and 'penned' my last entry. Sadly I've slid down 1200 points in the ranks - not surprisingly. Many thanks for all the new follows in my absence, although I don't deserve them.
The reason for the time out was that I had to go back to my 'real' job for the summer. I had every intention of getting back here as soon as it was over. But... what happened?
Upon returning to my home, I saw what a mess it was. So I spent a month decluttering and cleaning. Oh boy, EVERYTHING. Funny how you can't see it when you're in it all the time.
And then another couple of afternoons unsubscribing from blogs and newsletters that I seem to be able to sign up to at the drop of the hat. Therein lies the problem. I seem to be a complete sucker for collecting and reading other people's stuff, but when it comes to producing anything of my own? Hah!
I'm not short of ideas either. I 'm constantly in a state of 'head talk' - but it never gets to be an actual blog. Somehow I can't associate internet 'stuff' with reality. Yes, I can buy stuff, get the freebie ebooks - it's like magic - but believing that I can make it a 'real' job for myself is an anathema. If it isn't physical. it isn't 'real'.
If you can't make sense of written words, it's called dyslexia. If you're a clumsy oaf, you have dyspraxia (I think?). But what if you can't associate blogging or marketing online with a 'real' occupation? (It also seems very anti-social to spend hours poring over the computer at the expense of sharing family time). Anyone else share this sit-down and just do it struggle?

I can totally relate to everything you wrote here - from decluttering and cleaning the house after coming back to reading other people's stuff rather than producing my own.....
The rank here doesn't matter. Just get to work on the training and your website. Good to see you back.
I understand what you're feeling. Not sure if it has a name though lol.
I have many moments where I wonder if I will ever start making money doing this. For me, I just tell myself it has to be better than the alternative. You see, I don't work. I live with my daughter and help her with her kids. So, before WA came along I was completely wasting my days playing on Facebook.
But I have to say that making money is not my main goal. It definitely IS A goal but not my main one. I have a website where I feel I can truly help people who are going through what I have been through. I am passionate about my subject.
I think your niche is great. I see people asking all the time about how to make 'natural' everything! I am always looking for ways to save money so I do a lot of searches for ways to make my own products such as laundry detergent, dish soap, cleaning products, etc.
Sometimes when we are branching out and trying new things, we can be our own worst enemy.
Thanks for the reply and the encouragement, Angela. I've decided I've got to stop being such a perfectionist about it all - just do a little post at a time. But I DO love the research... (And just because you're at home as a carer doesn't mean you don't work!)
Good luck with your venture.
You are so right. I do work every day lol. Some days the biggest job I have is working on staying sane!
You're right, stop trying to be perfect - it's never gonna happen!
If you look at my profile you can see my blogs where I have vented. I even had a mini melt down this past weekend. But even so, I have yet to think about quitting yet.
If you ever need to vent or rant just give me a call. :) or rant on your blog or go into your bathroom, put a towel over your face and scream! haha
One of my favorite sayings is from Joyce Meyer who says:
Everything is always all right in the end. If it's not all right, then it's not the end!
Keep in touch - maybe we can go crazy together. ;)
Greetings Mel,
Please do not take any of this in the wrong way. ;-}
Based on my observations of what you have written you seem to have a decent command of the King's English so to speak, which can be a major hurdle for folks trying to make a business online.
Secondly your view of internet stuff .vs reality is quite common until you are deeply involved, researching and writing regularly. Soon you begin to see just how REAL the internet actually is, especially to those that lose REAL $$.
In the past I like so many here have been scammed out of a lot of money looking to find a space where I could learn to work the internet professionally.
They always had the next "Guru" trick I needed for my success held at ransom on another costly level.
If it is your desire to help others by answering their questions within a specific niche, then it is all about you and your ability to make a plan, get enrolled in a course, stick to it and succeed, just like with any other start up business.
WA offers you "Everything" in fact so much it can be a bit overwhelming.
For me personally because of my tech background I knew I wanted the Affiliate BootCamp & I am still working it.
MY entire site is the product of BootCamp and it is a very competitive niche, but I am now getting decent Google 1st and 2nd page SERP because of the content I produce fairly regularly.
I must fly for now I am in the middle of my next review on an MLM the wife and I joined back in 2007. Great product killed by another pyramid scheme.
Be well any questions, drop a line, all my best to your success,
Gary
Many thanks, Gary. You're right, I think the 'overwhelm' factor has a part to play too. But I'll keep plugging away as when I look back to where I was a year ago, I've already learned so much. Good luck with the review.
Mel,
Thanks for understanding, and thanks for the follow, one thing I found that helped me from being overwhelmed was to have a daily plan or whatever your schedule allows, but written out.
Take the classes 1 at a time and really absorb the info before you move on.
If you do have the time for some diversion try to explore the recorded "Live" stuff if you don't have time to watch Jay Live. His stuff is awesome.
Try to locate something that goes with the lessons you are working if possible otherwise that may become an unwanted distraction.
It does take time and patience but it is well worth the effort when you can write and develop yourself into an authority figure in any niche you decide to go after.
Wishing you well,
Gary

I would say that your perfectionism is your biggest barrier to success, there are many subtle ways that we can self sabotage and perfectionism is probably one of the biggest ones.

So true, Barry. Even when responding to comments I want to say the 'right' thing... (Being an EFL teacher doesn't help with the free-flow sometimes..!)
