Standing in muddy waters?
As an opportunity to contribute to the community and get blogging before setting my website, I thought I'd share a reflection from my own life on going from muddy waters to some clarity.
As I mentioned in my first blog post, our minds are the worst places to stay in when we are feeling low. It's helpful to come up with action items, people to call or reminders to read when we are in the muddy waters of our mind.
My recommendation is as part of your WA practices, take time to write out an "in case of emergency" plan for yourself. Or create a "getting out of muddy waters" list.
One essential key to this practice, is to make a promise to yourself to refuse to stay stuck which is totally a mantra of WA and Kyle and Carson.
Refuse to allow yourself to stay in a stuck, muddy waters kind of place/thinking and be a demand for getting what you need to get out of it.
Here are some ideas for getting some clarity, peace of mind--stepping out of the mud.
1. Find a few designated listeners- ask people that you admire in your life to be people you can call with the intention to get out of the crappy thinking space. When you call, ask them to allow you to get empty- to get all the crappy thoughts out of your head and for them to ask you at the end, is that all? And keep looking to see what else you can empty from your head. When you feel you've gotten it all out, have them ask you if you want coaching, advise or if you are good. Sometimes all it takes is someone to listen and sometimes we want others insight. There is power in having the choice.
2. List out everything you said you would do or gave your word to in the last week or so. Take out your calendar and schedule when they will get done and then get them done. Often we can get ourselves frustrated because we have incomplete things around us---things we said we would do that hasn't been done or people we said we would call. Once we take care of those things, we create new space for other things to show up in our life.
3. Make up a theme for the the rest of your day or hour. Cling onto a word that inspires you as your guiding light. Get creative-- find a word that lights you up and ask, if I was being that, what next action would I take?
4. Reach out to 4-5 people in your life and check in to see how they are. My favorite way of doing this is to write handwritten notes to friends and mail them at random with the intention of lighting up their life. And sometimes to get out of my head it means connecting with others faster --so email might be the mode to use or FB messenger. Just be intentional about making a difference for them.
