Fall in Love with Market Research & Your Customer Avatar
The importance of market research cannot be overstressed. It is what it takes to become truly successful as an affiliate marketer, and it allows you to sell with ease.
So what is it really? Well the way I have begun to look at it is to think about the film 'Avatar', you know the one with the blue Na'vi people who live on the world of Pandora? Well in the film the main character, Jake Sully, a disabled former Marine, attaches to a human/na'vi hybrid and this allows him to navigate the poisonous Pandora environment and interact with the Na'vi population.
His mission is to find out about culture of the Na'vi and to find out what makes them tick. Now, if you have seen the film, you will know that there is more to this mission, but if you haven't I'm not about to write any spoilers in here, so instead I'll just recommend you go and watch the film. See it as WA homework for understanding Market Research. ;)
So back to Market Research, and why watching 'Avatar' is a good idea in understanding the level that Top Marketers go to in understanding their ideal customer. Being successful at selling is understanding the needs of your customer fully. You need to understand what makes them tick. You need to be able to get under their skin (can you see how I'm linking this to the film?). You need to hang out with them. You need to understand what their passions are. You need to understand their problems and their desires, and then you get to be amazing by offering them fantastic solutions and giving real value to their lives.
In the film, Jake Sulley does this so well that he falls in love with a Na'vi woman, and yes, I think that is an important component of doing well in this business too. I do think Market Research should lead you to falling in love with your Customer Avatar, so much so that selling to them becomes your duty, your passion and ultimately your absolute joy.
Now, on that note, and because I want my blogs to be interactive, I wonder if you'd be willing to help me with my own market research (and possibly help yourself to)? You joined Wealthy Affiliate and became a Premium member, right? Or, right now you are a starter member here, and are considering whether or not to become a Premium member, yes? So what I want to know is:
- What made you say YES in the first instance to joining up to Wealthy Affiliate? (What was your driver?)
- And, (hopefully I'm not pushing it here) What made YOU become a Premium member?
- Or, if you are still deciding, what do you still need to know?
Now remember, answering the two questions above isn't only help for me. This is great market research for all of us into understanding the inner workings of our Customer Avatar, because we've all been there. We are our perfect customer.

I love what you have written. At least now I can understand better as a newbie in internet marketer one has to do lots and lots of research and not just pick a niche.
I am going to be a premium member by this week. My reason for being an internet marketer is one financial freedon and not having to wake up in the morning, dress up and rush to work.
Im still a baby boomer so will need a lot of perseverance!

I often get up early in the morning and begin working on my laptop before the rest of my family has stirred, so I am very often working in my pjs. And I love it!!

Did you manage to make any sales so far?
No. I have been procrastinating too much. Now I am focused and concentrating on the Affiliate Bootcamp as I am committed to learning affiliate marketing.
I think the best way for me to learn is to do the course, ingest, implement and then teach on my website. I also think that this will, in the long run, get me the future sales.
It's very easy at the beginning to go off track.
I'm really looking forward to the time I say YES, I've made loads. ;)
