The doldrums and that giant sucking sound.
Mahatma Gandhi said “Speed is irrelevant if you are going in the wrong direction.”
When I first joined Wealthy Affiliate I was going at a million miles an hour. I loved it! I loved it so much that I even did an 18 hour day and I would sometimes forget to eat. You could say I had a lot of wind in my sails.
With pride, and after weeks of faithful dedication and commitment I finally unveiled my new website to a very good friend. I had been operating with so much positivity that I just knew she was going to love it :) and the result: SHE HATED IT!
Her exact words were "I don't like to be sold to."
The worst thing about it was that she was right. In all my enthusiasm and desire for success I had become nothing more than a shallow and empty marketing machine. All I had wanted to do was take, and in my new realisation, I could see that there were thousands of other sites just like me.
Suddenly there was a giant sucking sound, as all that wind that was in my sails, and all my momentum, rushed to desert me. I was deep in the vacuum of the doldrums, going nowhere. I couldn't go forward, I couldn't go back, not up, not down. I was stuck.
I had to take a hard look at myself and wonder, "why was I here at all?" I had to examine my motives and come clean, "where was this journey taking me?"
I see now that this was my test, and the test was "Would I give up?" Thankfully, the answer was "No!"
I didn't know what direction to turn, or how I was going to progress, but I did know that if I kept searching a solution would work it's way out. I continued to read, I continued to study, and then finally one day an idea came to me on the breeze.
It was a quote from the late “Golden Rule” Jones of Toledo, taken from Wallace D. Wattles book, The science of getting rich, and it states:
“What I want for myself, I want for everybody.”
I'm not sure if this means anything to you, but for me, it was that uplifting push that I had been searching for.
Because now, my site is not about benefiting me, it's about benefiting everybody.
Now, my site is not about serving myself, it's about my duty in helping others.
And now, I find myself moving forward again, on a higher heading, and with a steady purpose.
If you find yourself stuck, or you are struggling, perhaps my experience can be of some help to you. I hope so, and please remember, never give up! There is always a solution to your problems, you must have persistence with your dreams.
Since I started with a quote from Gandhi let me finish with one from him:
( And if you've gotten this far, Thank you for reading! )
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Love,
tMiR.

Better to focus on helping people than on selling. The selling is incidental when you focus on your reader first.
Thanks Labman, I totally agree, although I think there is a difference between knowing this and just saying it, I'm happy to say that now, I KNOW IT.
Thanks for the comment!
