Twitter & Pinterest- my new focus.

Hello Everyone San here,

In the world of Social Media I am what you would call an infant, maybe even a fetus. Recently I have been working on gaining a following on Twitter and Pinterest.

Pinterest has been going wonderfully and I now have over 6K followers. Thanks to every one for following me.

For those of you who would like to follow me I will return the favor and follow you back.

Twitter however has not been that kind to me. I have followed several people and they have not followed me back for whatever the reason LOL.

I have hit a road block. When you get to where you are following more than are following you they stop you from following any more people until you reach a ratio that they have set and do not disclose.

I would appreciate if those of you who use twitter could help me out with a follow and as soon as they lift my block I will be following you back.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

I am also interested to know if anyone else has encountered this problem. Please leave me a comment either way.

I am always at your service,

San

It seems to me that there is a point, and I'm not sure where it is, of diminishing returns. Chasing after thousands of followers, beyond that point, is a waste of time.

I have a number of followers that have over 30,000 followers of their own. The odds of one of my tweets being seen by them is pretty much zero. In order to get their attention I would have to set up dozens of tweets and then re-tweet them over and over every couple of hours or so all day long. There are programs that do that for you. All that would do, though, is flood the feeds of those followers of mine that are just following a few people, and they would un-follow me for cluttering their feed with redundant tweets. I've un-followed a number of people for doing that to me.

Social media is about being social and pushing beyond that isn't very fruitful. Who actually interacts with 30,000 people on a daily basis?

2

Well if you tweet and it is seen by all of those followers then you have interacted with them. But that is not really the point now is it? The point is to have enough followers that the percentages are with you 5 to 10% will read and go to where you would like them to go and then you can make some coin for your effort.
I don't retweet redundantly, I have also deleted those that do.

You won't have interacted with hardly any of them. For busy feeds you're only going to interact with a very few of them, because by the time they get around to visiting their page your tweet will have been washed way down the feed by all the new ones coming in.

The problem with busy sites like twitter and Facebook is that the feed is continually growing all day long. So someone who has lots of followers is probably only going to look at the top 20 or 30 when they visit their page, or if they are bored maybe the top 200. But if that feed is growing at 200 to 300 tweets per hour there are hundreds of tweets that they will never see.

For a busy feed the lifetime of a tweet is maybe 30 minutes to an hour, thus the need to retweet often to be seen.

2

That is not my experience, most people like me, read their twitter feeds all day long and I can star them if I want read them later. So still the numbers are in my favor and it is the marketing game. I am not after everyone, just the few.
This is a proven method that works to drive traffic. I read the feeds of several people all day long. The ones who just tweet constantly all day long about nothing I usually delete because they are too involved with themselves to see anything beyond their own nose.

I don't fully understand these networks San, but I have followed you.

I need to investigate them more from a business perspective.

2

Thanks Ben,
Lets learn how to use them together. I will be posting about my experiences and I will stay in touch with you on what happens.

I haven't personally experienced it, but I know plenty who have. Typically the cut off is 2,000 follows. I don't remember what the ratio is, but I know that once you typically hit 2,000, they'll cap it until the ratio feels more balanced.

2

Yeah they have cut it off at 2000 for me and the ratio is secret so I will not know when they will let me expand but I am trying to get beyond the 2000 and expand from there.

I think we both have to get with there program. I have the same problem with google.

3

Oh so google does the same thing? I was going there next. I have a three month plan to expand my social presence and get some traffic from it.
I am looking for ideas on how to go about it. There is a lot of training about it but I want to hear from others about their experiences as well.

Hmmmm. Who'd a thunk? Thanks San. I'm even a smaller fetus than you are. I'll follow you on Twitter but I'm not yet there on Pinterest.
Thanks!

2

Thanks KKat,
LOL didn't know you would or could get smaller than a fetus. Let me know when you are up on Pinterest and I will follow you.

Hi San, I followed you on Pinterest. I don't as of yet have a Twitter account. I have pretty much every thing else. Lol

2

I will be putting links to all my social media up on my page. I feel the need to rewrite my bio and add them as links. Maybe that would boost it as well.

I understand what you mean about being new to social media... I would say I'm a adolescent! LOL Twitter is not my friend either and Fb is more personal for me, but I have been doing exceptionally well with Pintrest and Google+.

3

Pinterest is a blast and I love it. Google+ is still very new to me and I am learning. Boomergp08 has inspired me to expand in this area.

I am sorry I have not had this problem. But then again, I only have google plus one for now. I too am unfamiliar with these social networks. I'm sure some of the more experienced WA members will be able to explain this to you.

3

I have read many trainings and I understand what Twitter has done and why. I am just trying to get my ratio up so my following will rise.
Thanks,
San
