One Tuesday Morning - 9-11

It has been 17 years and it seems like just yesterday! Do you still think about it? Where were you and what were you doing on that fateful Tuesday morning when for one day it seemed the world stopped turning? Were you on your way to work? Were you still curled up in your comfortable bed, waiting for the day to unfold? Maybe giving your kids breakfast as you had the news channel on? Driving in your car, listening to the radio, when the song you were listening to was interrupted by a news broadcast? Did you live in New York, when in the distance you could see the black smoke rising?

Maybe you were just sitting on your computer working on an internet business with your programmer while one window screen on the computer was open to a new chat room you discovered online! I still remember that morning like it was just yesterday, my kids were off to elementary school as I hadn’t started homeschooling them yet, and not one to listen to the news ever since the Oklahoma Bombing, and the Susan Smith case came into play years ago, not to mention the O.J Simpson Case!

Facebook was not invented yet, neither was Twitter, and all the other social medias! There were chat rooms, and messengers like ICQ and MSN Messenger! Two that I used quite frequently, I might add! I was in one of those chat rooms talking to a “good friend” I had made online name Megan, when all of a sudden she typed to me in ALL caps! “Turn on your TV! Watch the News!” It was shortly after 9:00 A.M at this point! I flicked on the TV, and saw a second plane hit the World Trade Center, which already had black smoke coming out of one side of it!

I swung back to the computer and asked her what happened, and her living in New York told me two planes hit the World Trade Center, and she could see what was going on clearly from her apartment! I sat in my arm chair after logging off the internet, and for the first time I can remember, I sat in one place all day watching the T.V! I couldn’t take my eyes off it, and didn’t even realize I was crying, until I noticed how dark the house was, and my husband walked in the door, pale faced, and he usually has darker skin! I had spent the day praying for the ones I didn’t know, and their families! I also wasn’t a prayer at the time!

Time slowly passed day by day, but even being Canadian, I was affected by this hard, and I couldn’t even imagine being American, never mind a New Yorker when this tragedy hit! I had just started working on the internet with someone from Alaska as my programmer! We took the internet by storm together, and he taught me so much! From HTML code, to PHP to creating flash websites and software! I paid for him to help program Stormpay (The New payment processor), where I bought shares in the company when it came out, and he helped me launch my signature program “Safelists Galore” when it came out, and my first MLM money program Safelists Galore Money Rush”, where I made hundreds with! He taught me how to create software to keep children safe online, and even though I was married, I loved him! Not like I love my husband! It was a friendship love! I learned so much from him, and no question I asked was “dumb” he told me, for that’s how I will learn! Soon, he started giving me more freedom with our projects, as he backed off for a bit! I figured I might have offended him somehow until he told me that he had to get posted in Afghanistan, and that day, I felt my heart drop! He told me not to worry, that he would be back! He said that he expected me to know by heart all he taught me, and when he got back, I should be able to teach him a few things! This was all done over ICQ! He left me his email address, and 2 weeks later, he was gone!

I never heard from my friend Dominique Kimbell ever again! Messages went unanswered, eventually, my emails I sent him bounced back! I went into mourning over all the senseless lost lives, but then one day, I got back on my feet and created program after program, and joined programs that were struggling, and I helped them out! I did what he would have done! I mentored others, but not a day goes by that I don’t think of him! I made really good money until I quit to home school my kids, and now I’m back in the saddle again, and if I listen real close I can still hear him say “Ask questions, as no question is a stupid question!” This post I wrote in honor of him, and all the others who lost their lives one Tuesday Morning in September for just doing what they do! People have put that day aside now, and moved on, but every now and then I remember, so this is to honor Americans everywhere, and especially the ones who live in New York! September 11th, 2001 is the day the world stood still!!

Beautifully written post about the biggest tragedy this country has had to endure. That was the day our country lost its innocence. Actually it was 16 years ago.

Correcting it to 16..lol..Thanks for reading my post and commenting! It was the biggest tragedy for sure, and one that will stay in the minds of many forever!

I'm English and it is 20 years since Princess Diana died and for us it felt like our world stopped, for a while. 9/11 was different, the world has never been the same since. The events that day have gone on to affect a huge number of people around the world. Great respect to you and your friends, Robert

Thank you so much Robert!!!

Yes, I was thinking about it all these years. This year's hurricane and worry about our friends who are out there somehow outweighed these memories.I was even thinking that the dates are about the same. I just didn't want to go further in making any connections. But anyway , the USA will have to remember the two 9-1-1 dates. How very tragic.

I agree so much!!! So much tragedy and the connections! Although for different reasons, we do need to take time to remember lives lost, and the healing that it can bring, even though it won't change things! Thanks for reading my post!!

Thank you for sharing your story Terry, powerful, that was the day that crazy landed on earth, that iconic footage of those planes crashing into that building will be etched into the minds of all that observed it.

Exactly! I will never forget what it felt like to see it on T.V, and the shock waves that went through me, never mind being right there when it all happened!! Thank you for reading my post and commenting!!

Yes I remember it all to well and your explained it clearly with such a beautiful love story. The day the world stood still....I am sure he is very proud of you. Can I ask you a question? just Kidding...thanks so much for sharing this beautiful story...and honoring all the fallen angels...

You're so welcome! And thank you for reading it and liking it! :) He sure will be missed, even after all these years!!

Terry - What a great tribute to your friend and to all Americans on this day of remembrance. Thanks for sharing this.

You're very welcome! And thank you for reading my post! :)

What a great post for us to remember and honor out fellow friends. I was getting ready for work as my usual routine. First drop off the kids to school. When the news hit, it was almost unbelievable. I can still see the image the news showed of the second plane hitting.
We kept our kids home from school that day, and tried to rationalize the event in their minds as well as ours. How can you even come close at a time like that.

It's good to remember those who are no longer with us. It's true, for me anyway, that we are only separated from others by a small degree.
And I'm sorry for your loss of a good friend. Life is tough sometimes. My belief... we will meet up with them again someday!

Thank you Terry for sharing! :0)

Thank you Mark! :) And thank you so much for sharing your memories of that day!! I know it's hard for a lot of people to look or think back, but it can also be so healing! It is good to remember all the lives lost, and to not let them be forgotten through the years!

Absolutely! I agree.
Thank you Terry.
I hope you have a great week!

Same to you Mark!! :)

Terry! you are such a gifted writer, what a story.

Living in Canada also, watching this unfold was terrifying.

I was at work as a Manager of a department and I was waiting for my vender to bring me samples. I just happened to look over at the several rows of TV sets in the electronics department beside mine and saw this going on. I had no idea it was real, this is how horrible it was. All those TV monitors big and small were showing this. Once my vendor arrived she looked panicked and told me what was going on as we watched it together.

I have goosebumps right now at the thought of this.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend! and it's awesome that you continued the way you did in his honour.

The shock of this stayed with me for a long time!

WOW Patsy! Thanks for sharing this! And thank you so much for the compliment about my writing! It's interesting for people to think back, and remember what they were doing the precise moment this happened!!

You are welcome.

I will never forget that ever! It's like it just happened, it scared me to death when I realized it was REAL. I can clearly see right now what I was looking at on all those TV screens :(

We still mourn all those lost that terrible day. My condolences on the loss of your friend. May we never forget 9/11 nor those brave military people serving in the Middle East. Americans must remember that we have more in common than we have differences. May we remain united against evil

Well said! :) And thank you for reading my post! :)

Actually I was at the other end of the country Terry. Burlington Washington. I had just visited Microsoft the day before and was floored to listen to the news on television at the hotel.
Of course you couldn't call east as all the phone lines were unavailable for awhile!

Wow!! Thanks for sharing Mike!!!!

I'm very happy to see Kyle has revised some rankings last night and that you are at the level you are. Keep on pitchin Terry. Love it!

Thank you very much Mike! :)

You're most welcome Terry!
