They Have Lost Their Minds

I normally would not write a post like this on an internal WA blog but it covers Amazon, so in a way it is valid although some may consider it to be political.

Now my short opening statement to start this blog off on the right foot. NYC has lost their EFin minds! No matter which side of the aisle you are on it will affect you because it has majority support.

Amazon may be forced to close 7 distribution warehouses in NYC because their city council and Mayor are about to pass what many are calling the Free Delivery Ban but the actual name is the "Delivery Protection Act." This act in all of it's wisdom would require Amazon to employ all of people who deliver packages upto and including contractors like their DESP's (Delivery Service Partners) which are legitimate business I may add. It would also require other outside package services to be licensed with the city.

This means 1000's of lost jobs and increased delivery cost and wait times. To be clear, this includes Every Delivery Service, Uber, DoorDash, and Lyft and hundreds of other private delivery services as well.

Why does this matter?

Back to my focus. Amazon will need to change their business model for this one single market. The delivery cost will will rise and the solution is a surcharge on an already struggling city.

That is about all I can say without getting too political. NYC has lost their minds. If you have not seen the news coverage, you probably need to get out more. Elections have consequences and this one was self-inflicted by NYC residents.
