Sometimes you just have to smile

I listened to an interesting video today. I found it very enlightening and wanted to share it with you all.

I know you all have heard the word GURU. So being a guru is something to strive for right? I think so. But what we all think of as a guru is really a misnomer. WHAT??

What does "guru" mean to you? Does it invoke thoughts of someone wise? Perhaps you see them as an expert in the field? A guru is a mentor right?

Not really. I watched a video on the Mahabharat YouTube channel and he explained the word guru a bit differently. He said the word guru- the word Goo means darkness and the word roo means dispeller. So a guru is not supposed to teach you something. He is not supposed to give you philosophy or ideology. Its just that he is supposed to give a little more light. He uses the analogy of a dark hall. First you see nothing in the hall. Only darkness. You have nothing to tell you that something is in that hall.

If you shine a flashlight to light that hall now you see more in is actually in that hall. But if you turn that flashlight off again, you no longer see just a dark hall you saw the first time. Now you know that there is more in to find in that darkness. You know you need to do more to discover what's really in that hall.

The guru is only the light that helps you become a little more aware. If you become a little more aware, then you become a little more conscious of things around you. It is the guru that sheds a little light- or belief- to help give you the confidence to find answers.

You cannot determine the experience of what's happening within you from outside. It has to happen from within you. It is how large your experience is that determines how large you life really is. We are talking about the essential ingredient of life: awareness. It is because you are aware that you are alive. If you celebrate each day with a smile in the awareness that you are alive, then you will see that miracles happen.

In thinking about this very deep video, I realized that we also need to be the real Gurus! Not the person imparting ideology or teaching but assisting others by shining light on a subject. Our goal is service first. So now that you know that being a "guru" isn't the glorious expert that we have been taught, it seems to me that it should be very important to turn our understanding so that we can be that light. The light dispels the dark enough to help our readers and customers find the answers to their problems. I believe it is in this approach we will find the greatest success.

Wow, interesting, I thought of a Guru as a greater being that guides us and teaches us greater understanding of the world around us. I enjoyed your post, thanks.
