Which Social Media is Most Effective?

I've hit the point in the training that pushes the social media. I get why this is important to engage people and to draw people to my website. That part makes perfect sense, but here's my problem. It's overwhelming to think about all the social media places that need to be shared to and built up. If I just use the 4 main ones that are discussed in the lessons (G+, Twitter, FB and Pinterest), that's 4 completely different types of social media groups to keep track of and to engage.

I think part of what has me stuck is my feeling that I've got to learn each venue and figure out how to best use each one and built a base in each one, then remember to post everything in each place. I'm feeling inadequate and overwhelmed and it's brought me to a standstill.

I'm wondering if this is overwhelming for anyone else to try to build all these at once? What did you do about it? Do we absolutely need to use each of these? Is there anything wrong with building up one and leaving the others alone until the one is solid, then adding in a second? Which networks are critical for you? Which ones are less responsive? If I was to start with just one or two, which ones are best?

Lots of questions. I'm trying to find a strategy that will help me get over the hump and make moving forward less chaotic.

Thoughts?

If you just concentrate on one at a time not so daunting

That seems to be the consensus here and I'm glad to hear it. I think I'll focus on one and go from there.

Thank you for the post. I am at a crossroads myself J

Hi Teresa,

I started with Google+ from the lessons and that's it.
7 months later, I'm now ready to add Facebook! I took detailed notes on how to do this and read enough blog posts learning from mistakes I don't want to make.

As for the rest like twitter, Linkeden...I think I spelled that one wrong but with no interest in it who cares :)
I won't go past Google+ and Facebook the rest is too much.

If I was to add more though..it would be gradual for sure.

Good luck!

Thanks for this. The lessons had me adding G+, FB, twitter and Pinterest and it just got overwhelming. So much so that I just stopped writing because I felt inadequate to get anything done correctly. But I think doing one at a time or just picking out a couple I like would be best.

Start with the two you are familiar with, then make yourself a goal and add every 6 months 1 new one. So it is not so overwhelming.
Or the second choice a social Media scheduling software. It is great but you still need to know the do's and don'ts of that social media.

I like the idea of adding at 6 month intervals. That would be less overwhelming. I've used a scheduler before, but right now I'm not where I can afford the extra expense. I'm fairly familiar with FB and Pinterest, but I'm not sure I do things the right way for a business. So I've been doing some research. Lots of things to remember.

Thank you.

Yes, I started with two, not one as I got told by my mentor if I start with one, I will need much more motivation to start with the others. If you start with two, it is a challenge but you get slowly the hang of it. Adding then from there is easier. I have now 6 social media accounts. Each is different but it is worth it.

Based on use Facebook is by far and wide the leader!

So Facebook should be my first focus, then add from there. Did you find it necessary to do all 4 of them?

I'm not that far along yet!
