HOW TO WRITE AWESOME ARTICLES

You are in a race, a race against other publishers on the net, and against yourself - wanting to do better and better in your writing and captivating power. And often you will be in a race against time.

This piece is intended to help you, Esteemed Reader, to write quality content. The acronym to remember is "SOW". You are out to sow your seeds on the world-wide web, seeds that should yield you abundantly - right? Here is the tried and tested approach:

S - Select

O - Organise

W - Write

SELECT

- your theme, appropriate for the time period, the place, and the audience. For example, many authors are currently interested in writing about the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. This is a huge theme, whatever perspective you will be approaching it from (Medical, Sociological, Legal, Religious, Economic, etc). You may have to present your thoughts or advice in a series of "easy-to-chew" articles, rather than one big chunk.

- your topic carefully. It is important to have a catchy title. Also please note that most search engines have a character limit for headings.

- your material, that is, the body of your piece / article.

You wish and need to be a trusted source. Use trusted or trustworthy sources! Please, sift through your sources carefully, and verify the information to the best of your ability. Note the materials' author(s) so you can appropriately acknowledge them, to avoid plagiarism.

ORGANISE your material, so that your article will flow smoothly, and end nicely. Do try to group related bits of information together.

A disorganised piece of writing is difficult to read and to remember. Even if time is limited e.g. you are blogging every day, do take a few minutes, or even seconds, to organise your thoughts, even if you don't write the draft down. This will help you also to remember all the points you wish to write about.

WRITE systematically and carefully, no matter how hurried you are. Always be aware of the varied nature of your audience - the different personalities and temperaments, the myriad of cultural, religious and political beliefs, etc. Control your emotions as you write. Be objective.

Quality and factuality must not be compromised for quantity and sensationalism.

Do try to include opposing views in your articles, even if it's just in passing. This is important especially for controversial or confusing issues. For example, there was this recent controversy about whether the SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 is airborne (which it has turned out to be!) Authors of materials on this issue, especially (Public Health) authorities, should have erred on the side of caution, by alerting the public about the possibility of this worst case scenario, of the deadly and highly contagious virus being airborne. The global community should have been alerted to the fact that research on the transmission of the coronavirus was ongoing and rapidly evolving. Failure to do this, may have contributed to a lot of morbidity and mortality.

A good piece of writing is one that has a few references (please see the above point on plagiarism). And for Affiliate Marketers, this is where you include the links to your products.

Lastly, work hard to make your writing concise. The world is pressed for time and people may simply overlook your writings based on their length. Also, the human brain begins to switch itself off after 20 minutes. So, aim for reads of no more than 20 minutes.
