The Source of Motivation
We all know motivation is critical - it ebbs and flows like the sea. But how do we control it? Where we do you source your motivation?
I was pondering these things the other day as I have had to do some re-budgeting. By way of background we hve recently moved to the country (a mini-farm of 3.5 acres is how we describe it. There are a number of things we want to do to. improve the property, and have a reasonably long list of capital items and acquisitions in mind. We are in no particular hurry, so this is all planned to go from one project to the next. It is very satisfying to have this ahead of us, and under control.
It does however mean that I get distracted from time to time and affiliate marketing often loses out a bit. Especially over weekends when we have friends visit and its full-on entertaining.
The stimulus for rethinking my motivation and the source of my motivation came into focus last week as I needed to spend some (unbudgetd) money on my car. Again, the back story. I drive a 22 year Jaguar XJ8, which has been my pride and joy for the last 18 years. Long ago I decided not to trade it, as I felt all I would be getting for a considerable spend would be some electics that I can live without. I must admit however that I have run out of tapes to play in the tape deck on board music system. (don't worry, I also have a CD palyer fitted, but no MP3).
The gearbox went, meaning $5k to spend, probably as much as the car is worth at resale value. But worse, the top needs a new paint job, (another $2k) which was going to happen around now, but is having to be put off.
So - when I consider my inconsistent approach to my on-line business, and my desire for what my wife considers unessential expenditure, my motivation to renew my on-line efforts has taken a big boost.
The resolution to time issues - outsourcing article production to get more activity happening on the site - and a rescheduling of time activities to create a new slot for article creation.
The lesson? Our motivation will wax and wane, but if we stick to the source, or renew it from time to time we can push through the lethargy or bad habits (poor decisions?) that seem to creep in every now and again.
So fo now, I have renewed motivation to push some extra sales through - to both pay for the new paint job on the Jag, but also to pay for the freelencers.
Cheers
David

We need to treat our business as a business and make the proper commitment in hours, resources..etc.
A successful business can take years to build and it requires the proper investment in time to maintain and grow it.
Make your "Why" you are in business more than big enough to motivate you and do what is necessary. Anything less and it becomes more like a hobby or a part time venture.
Maybe I read your post wrong, but that is the sense I am getting. I apologize if I am completely off base.
To Your Success!
