The Whinge Session
Monday mornings are always a bit sobering for me and not because I have been drinking all weekend and have a headache! ; ). They remind me that I have made the choice to work for myself and it's up to me to make it happen. And I guess in there somewhere, in my all too often overstimulated mind, is the thought that maybe I won't actually make it and don't have what it takes.
It's human to have doubts and it's actually not a bad thing, it means we have the ability to balance both sides by considering both sides of an argument. Once both sides are presented we then choose somewhere along the line of possibilities and place our focus there. I have tried many different times to build a sustainable online business and still it's a work in progress and I am not where I want to be yet and I am not making a living online.
Am I a failure I ask myself......my gut response.....I can't and won't think of myself like that, it goes against the grain for me to do so. I also would never class another person as a failure, because there are no failures in life just learning curves and every wrong turn gives us more information on which to build success. They say the only failure is giving up....but I have learnt that even when things seem useless and beyond your control and you think you want to give up you still wake up every morning and you still have a life to live and you can still dream of better things.
I told my daughter yesterday what I was doing with my online business and she was concerned for me. Of course, I should explain that my kids have seen me go through a hell of a lot and they want the best for me and they are always going to try and steer me away from more hardship. I felt a bit defiant when my daughter told me I should probably change my focus as I had not seen the success I had hoped for over several months of trying. If it aint workin, change tack right?.
And yesterday I worked hard on my site getting content on there and even asking for some comments in the Bootcamp course comments so I could have some engagement going on on my site. I left comments and feedback on other people's sites hoping for reciprocation.
Unfortunately I still have no comments and it did deflate me a bit. I started to wonder whether perhaps my site is sooo bad that people, not wanting to offend me, prefer to stay silent! lol. Funny I know but it did cross my mind!. I mean I am sure my site wouldn't win any awards as yet lol but I am confident it's not that bad!.
But, you know what, I think it is just Monday-itis, I will have my grumble and whinge and pull my chin up off the floor and get back to it. I know I am doing the right thing here, I know I have the guts to keep going at it, I appreciate others concern for me and I know why they feel that way, but I am nothing if not a survivor and definitely I am a stubborn mule and I aint shifting tack!.

Hi there, these are all too familiar feelings - Im sure you ( and I ) are not alone. But- the good news is that you are talking about it and have not just thrown in the towel. I, too, am a bit strong minded ( yes, ok, stubborn) and I hate being told to try some thing else when things start to get hard, it usually only makes me more determined.
Anyway, write down your pro's and con's for doing the business and you'll see that the pros will out-way the cons. Then write down your 'why'. It sounds cheesy I know - but I have learned this recently. if you have a 99% strong reason WHY you are doing this business then nothing will stand in your way.
thats my 2 cents worth.
Cheers
James
Thanks James, it has been a bit of a roller coaster of a day, emotions wise but we all have those. I appreciate your 2 cents worth ; ). I am a stayer, I find it helps me to write it out and just be real about it. It's nice that people like yourself take the time to help....thanks...Tanya
Hello, TanyaB. However you define the word "failure", let me give you the correct and definitive definition of it. Failure is when you've given up and stopped trying. Despite any past less-than-encouraging episodes, you are still trying! To me, that reveals an amazingly resilient individual! Ironically, you sound like you're feeling bad about yourself when you should be feeling good!
It's easy to lose focus of realities when one is in such a somber, self-critical mode. But I assure you, TanyaB, you do not have a monopoly of past fails, we all have them. But you just showed us that you chose not to stay down. You just need to be told you are above so many who remained down.
Don't listen too much to naysayers. Love your daughter, but realize that she knows nothing about WA, so how can she be in a position to criticize it? Affiliate marketing has worked for tons of people, and I truly believe the concept works. And just because it hasn't worked well for me yet, doesn't mean I should knock it.
I have reviewed three sites so far, but I don't exactly get to pick which ones to review. Unfortunately, I didn't even see yours. You said, "I started to wonder whether perhaps my site is sooo bad that ..." Nonsense, TanyaB, don't do this to yourself. If I had seen your site and your name, I would've reviewed it. I remember you from yesterday, my very first day of interaction with WA members, and I could've sworn you said you yourself were 3 days old with WA, do I recall correctly? I'm curious about the site you built. Post your URL, I'll look into it and promise to give you an honest look-over. :)
Thankyou so much! That was such a spirit lifting response. Your name is David yes?. I know feeling a bit deflated is a temporary state but getting it out there I can refocus and get on with it, but positive reinforcement from others like your obviously kind self really does help!. My site is
http://www.netbizfortune.com
and your comments and/or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I would be very happy to reciprocate with your site if you want me to.
Thanks again David,
Tanya
And Day 4 of my Wealthy Affiliate journey is under way ; ). So perhaps I need to relax a bit lol and not expect miracles right?. But on the upside, I also believe, that when you expect big things to happen it can open the space up for them to actually show up.
TanyaB, I have to start by saying this because it was really glaring -- YOU CAN WRITE REALLY WELL! I liken your writing ability and style to those of novelists and journalists. Your writing style is vivacious, colorful, swaying, coherent, and intelligently subtle in delivering your points at times! I now have to ask you, have you ever given writing books and articles a try? You seem to me like a J.K. Rowling in the making, writing Harry Potter books that engage the reader into a different world!
However, your style of writing would be atypical in affiliate marketing. As entertaining and pleasant a read it was, people searching for a solution to their problem won't care about flair and style; they'll be looking for succinct information that'll lead them to the solution they seek. Brevity and conciseness becomes key since they're not looking to be entertained, but rather, enlightened. But this is good for you because you actually have to "dumb-down" your writing, and that's easier to do than for less colorful writers like me to elevate their style to yours; so this should be easy for you.
When I arrived at your page, I saw some puzzling things, things like "THUMBS DOWN REVIEWS", "THUMBS UP REVIEWS", "THE STAYERS AND THE PLAYERS (LEGIT VS SCAMS!)", etc. that preceded your prose. Did you put those in? It might not be a good idea to show that to a reader right off the bat because it will only disorient them into thinking that this website is either incomplete or deplete of content.
Here's my suggestion to you, TanyaB. I just reviewed three sites, and I'd like you to look at this one: http://kidsappsntoys.com/. You'll notice that the writing style is nowhere as colorful as yours, but it shouldn't have to be. The site offers a warm and sincere tone, making the reader feel comfortable. Navigation is easy, things are clear and intuitive. As I explored that site, I never felt lost. Notice too that this site employed several techniques like the use of ads from Google so that they can earn money when those ads are clicked. It also has the feature of asking the reader if they want to subscribe and be informed via email of future new toys that come out, thereby building a small community of its own. Notice, too, that it's multi-page instead of one long running page. Thing is, you and I need to emulate the ways and methods of people who are already successful at this; our personal preferences should be set aside for now. Maybe someday, when we are successful, we can experiment with little tiny variations that reflect our personality, but we need to learn the basics first.
TanyaB, I think you have the most important element that many affiliate marketers will envy, and that's your writing ability. Given what I've seen, you will have no problem at all being cogent on what you're trying to sell. What you (and I) need to do now is to learn the formats proven to be successful in affiliate marketing. We have to learn from those who are successful, even if the way they do things differ from ours. After all, when all has been said and done, it's making money with our sites that really matter, right?
P.S. You also really need to seriously consider expanding your efforts in making good use of your writing talent; that and affiliate marketing will go well hand-in-hand. :)
Don't expect affiliate marketing success to be overnight. I have a clear picture of what's ahead of me, and boy, there's a lot we have to learn. We just have to stick to it and persist.
We do indeed. I think one of the best things about being involved with Wealthy Affiliate is having access to the feedback and support we need to move forward, I have been making heaps of changes to my site and working closer with my sponsor to get it looking better. Thankyou again for your extremely generous appraisal of my site and helping me along that path. It's such generosity that confirms for me that I am in the right place.
Hi, TanyaB! You're thanking me for my "extremely generous appraisal" ... precisely the same feeling I have for so many people I've crossed paths with here in WA! I believe it is when we give that we receive. Karma is nothing mystical, it's logical; what you give out is what you will receive. I'm glad to have been able to help you, and feel free to private message me if you want me to look at your site again after your makeover!
