One of my goals this year is to lose weight - simple, right! The reality is that no matter what I try to do, I don't lose weight, I just keep adding it on, a couple pounds at a time.

I have been reading a book called "Maximum Fat Loss" by Ted Broer.

I feel like everything I eat is on his "DON'T EAT LIST".

I am about half-way through and feel like the diet I need to be on is like the picture above. WATER - Period.

So I thought, why not go to one of the greatest sources of help I have found - The WA Community.

I would really like to hear some of your thoughts about a healthy diet and exercise plan.

I don't plan to be a body builder - I just want a common sense ideas how to live healthier.

So please let me know some of your ideas, successes, and failures.

If your niche is in this area PM me and I will check it out for help.

Thank You all for any help you can provide.

Ray

PS - I hope you all have a blessed week ahead and keep moving ahead towards your goal.

Hi Ray,

I am not a diet expert but here is what works for me personally. The easiest way for me to lose weight is to cut out sugar and of course corn syrup which is in everything. I am not saying don't have anything sweet but try to make sure it is sweet from fruit, honey etc. rather than sugar or artificial sweeteners. Stevia is my new favorite ingredient since it is a plant (I have grown it myself). It is not an artificial sweetener or highly refined. You can get soda sweetened with it as well as other foods.

I have found the thing that puts weight on me the fastest is ice cream. I don't know why...I love it...not fair!! I just found a new brand however that has very little sugar (but no artificial sweeteners either). The problem with so many "diet" or "light" foods is that they cut out fat but still have a ton of sugar! That is backwards. Our bodies are actually made to use some fat.

It is really hard to be healthy but if I stay away from the sugary stuff the rest is pretty easy.

The other thing that seems to work well and be the most logical is eating a high fiber diet. All the bad stuff is very low fiber such as white flour and white sugar. High fiber foods are usually healthy. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains all have high fiber. Fiber is very good for a variety of reasons but it also helps us feel full with a smaller amount of food. Therefore if you eat a high fiber meal you will be eating fewer calories and healthier foods and feel better.

Wow I really do appreciate all this Jessica.
I realize I really have to do something about all the sugar, that is my weakness especially in cookies.
You have been a lot of help, thanks.
Ray

I know how you feel. I have found that having good fruits or vegetables ready to eat (washed, cut up in the fridge etc) makes it much easier when you want a snack. Some cold, crisp, sweet black seedless grapes are very satisfying. Or whatever you like. My husband loves cucumber and tomatoes so we always have those around. The trick is having them handy so you don't have any excuse!

Ray, this is a subject, divided and conquered by me.
Take out all sugar munchies, and forget what's in the ingredients of others.
By taking ice cream out of my fridge, I slowly went back to comfortable.
Don't say dieting to lose weight! We have a really hard time giving up things we've lost.
Stop focusing on the problem, but stay in the solution. Exercise a bit more, eat smaller portions, when having meals.
Learn to eat to LIVE!... Not Live to eat!
Just a couple of tips from me.
Take the focus OFF what you don't want, and GIVE yourself a break!
Joyce Meyer..."I have dessert day!... I enjoy every bite, and then go back to my program, guilt free.
You must learn to eat in a way that you can live with.
Best Actions towards a healthier you, Ray!

Thanks so much Barb, wise words indeed.
Have a blessed week.

Might I add Ray...Stay off that scale!! Once a week Max!!!
Gaining a "pound" is a buzz kill!
We fluctuate between 1-2 pounds everyday.
Focus on what you'll gain!
I gained weight while Mom was sick and I was constantly going back and forth! Eating junk...
I'd gained 40 pounds...My knees were hurting, while descending stairs on bitter cold mornings. I dropped 10 pounds and could again run up the stairs!
I haven't had the problem since, Dec 2013...
Made the decision!
Barb

Like you, I never had a weight problem until the weight fairy visited me at around 50. I'm still fighting the war. I love to cook and bake and this doesn't help. I have yet to find a solution except seeing my mouth shut and that sounds like IT WOULD HURT TOO MUCH

Be well, Laine

WE cease fighting! ;)
B

Make ice cream a roadtrip! It worked for me. Sweets out...Once in awhile at night only.

You may have gut issues and hormone imbalances that are impeding your bodies ability to loose weight. This can be very frustrating.
Every body is different and what "diet" may work for one person may not work for another.
The 131 Method Book may be a good place to start. There are a few other books about hormone imbalances and gut issues as well, but I can't think of them right now!

Thanks Anna, will add that to all the great information that has been shared.
Have a blessed week ahead.

What's eating you, says more than we know.
Stress causes our body imbalance...Dis-ease leads to diseases. We can rid ourselves of what's bothering us, and see the healing begin.
I refuse to accept illness. I don't have time to have a cold!i
Works for me...Has for years.
