What is a Friend?

When I was young I thought friends were those people in your life who show up and ask for things and when they are in trouble you would sense it and call them up and they'd be so glad and say something like: "Girl, how did you know I really needed this" and they'd spill the beans of what they were dealing with and you'd stand in the gap for them hoping that they would do the same for you one day. Most of the time these lovely people just left you in peace which is really great for an introverted recluse like myself.

I did notice that these wonderful friends of mine never seemed to sense when I needed a hand so I had to face my deepest dark nights on my own, it is normal to sense when your friends need a hand right? I thought it was... Maybe it isn't. Please share your thoughts here...

Years have passed, now I am in my twilight years and I am beginning to think that a real friend is the one who shows up and annoys the heck out of you because they just won't leave you alone. They keep showing up and getting you to do things you would not normally do on your own. They keep showing up even when you tell them you don't want them in your life. They challenge your comfort zones and pester you even when you make excuses about being busy, but then you notice that you are always laughing and having fun when they are around even if it is strange unfamiliar stuff that you are doing, yet it is fun.

When this friend or friends happen to not be around, you actually miss them andfind yourself blatantly grinning at the thought of them. Do you have a friend or friends like that? It could even be Business Associates...

Maybe a friend is not someone who is like-minded or someone who is into all the things we like and are comfortable with... Perhaps a real friend is that someone who stretches us to be who we are "Not" in order to discover or be who we really are beyond our conscious understanding... Does that make sense...? What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much for reading my two- line post, please share your thoughts and likes if you do. I wish you Massive Success and Prosperity in all your Ventures

To me, a friend is not of acquaintances, she/he is the person who can be a part of your journey for a certain life situation. That person may disappear after he/she has done the thing you needed for that time.
So a friend can be a person that does not necessarily show up every time but a person that may appear in just one time of your life.
And he/she can be a friend forever because what he/she did is remembered forever.
My opinion only.

Awesome! Thanks for your Comment, I appreciate you.

Welcome, and thank you if it makes sense.

Hi Kimberleigh. I have always thought a friend is someone who is there in both the good times and bad; always on your side cheering you on or helping you find a new way. Sometimes my friends can be a pain, but that is because they care. They are my friend because they want to be.
Seems I have heard someone else say, "a friend in need is a friend indeed."
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kimberleigh.

Many years ago when I was a young boy an old man told me it was better to have one good friend rather than a bunch of "mates".

You have summed it up here...…
"Perhaps a real friend is that someone who stretches us to be who we are "Not" in order to discover or be who we really are beyond our conscious understanding"

In two parts -
1.someone who stretches us = I have a friend I have known for 50 years, we met when we were 5. He is unlike me in many ways, he was a boy and is a man who stands up for people, he is not physically strong but mentally he is special forces grade - He is religious (which I am not) and like me he believes in equality and hates race discrimination. He challenges me, he is the man I would like to be.

2. beyond our conscious understanding = Yes. This is also very true, this really comes to light when you get a glimpse of your own sub conscious self and begin to realise that life is not always what it seems - Then you will meet people who are friends, you may meet them briefly maybe for hours or a few days BUT these people are friends that provide you with influence and who you influence in return, I am getting a bit heavy here but lets just say if you are both tuned in you will realise that you have known them for ages and will know them forever.

Kind Regards Mike

Thank you so much for your Comment Mike! Very Potent, I'm breathing it in deeply. :) Thanks again. Much Love ❤️
