Chasing Freedom!

"If time is your only product, you will never have freedom." The first time I heard that quote, it sent chills through my body. I have been trading my precious time, which I will never get back, for dollars that someone else has decided that I'm worth. Let that sink in for a minute. I am not naturally an entrepreneur. I thought I was, but I'm not. I enjoy knowing when I will get paid and how much I will get paid. I can count on the bi-weekly paycheck and 5% match to my 401 (k). No matter how frustrating a 9 to 5 can be at times, there is a sense of security knowing that I will get a paycheck twice per month. There's more of a risk going out on your own. I know now that the risks of gaining my freedom through entrepreneurship outweigh the security of a paycheck.

Why should we feel comfortable with someone else telling us the value of our time? Why should we feel comfortable with someone else telling us how much time we can spend with our friends and family without being bombarded by tasks, deadlines, and emails? Why should we feel comfortable with someone else telling us how much we are worth in retirement? We SHOULD NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE with this, and I have finally come to the point of desperation that I am pushing past my comfort zone and jumping in. Why? Because I am finally clear abouty my "Why." My "Why" is my daughter, myself, and my family. I am 45 and I can't imagine working the way I do and giving anymore of my time to someone else. No. There is more to life than that.

I used to be the type that sat in network marketing opportunity meetings and watching YouTube videos listening to people ask "how would you like to vacation (fill in the blank with a beach and sparkling blue water), "how would you like to live in (fill in the blank with a mini-mansion)," etc. I thought these people are scamming me and just trying to take my money. Whether their intentions were good or not, the questions they asked are ones that we should all be asking ourselves.

In America, we raise our children to be workers not entrepreneurs. We teach our children how to have a strong work ethic to make someone else money, but we don't teach them how to build wealth and leave a legacy. I have a responsibility to my daughter to teach her differently. I have a responsibility to build wealth now to leave a legacy. Let's no longer trade our time for dollars. Let's work together to escape the 9 to 5 and be aggressive about the life we really want. Let's continue to encourage each other and let's meet in Vegas next year with Kyle and Carson. I'll be the one wearing the beaming smile, flip flops, t-shirt, and diamond studs. See you next year peeps!
