My two Dylan quotes of the week
I'm going through a bit of nostalgia when watching tonight "Dangerous Minds" (1995) Based on the true story about a daring teacher taking on the task of teaching urban inner city kids in HS and changing not just their lives but hers as well. I will never forget the movie back then being I was a freshman in HS and on a first ever date with my first every boyfriend Gerson at the time, ah the butterflies.
Anyways later in the movie the students are assigned to what is called the "Dylan Dylan'' contest - being that Bob Dylan is well known, however there was also another artist named Dylan Thomas. Goal was to find a poem or lyric to a song and determine if it is one by not Bob Dylan but by Dylan Thomas. Winners get a nice dinner with the cool teacher ( played by Michelle Phifer).
What struck me about the chosen quotes for both artists was the deeper meaning of what and how powerful these words still hold after years of their birth. Going through this transition and figuring out my life and future and finding the will to keep going when sometimes you just feel like giving up. Watching this tonight, the feelings I had from those first impressions back then are still with me tonight:
Snippet by Dylan:
" I will not go down under the ground cause tells me that death's comin round.....an I will not carry myself down to die...When I go to my grave my head will be high....." ( Lyrics by Bob Dylan: http://bobdylan.com/songs/let-me-die-my-footsteps/ )
Snippet by Dylan:
" Do not go gentle into that goodnight...old age should burn and rave at close of day....rage,rage against the dying of the light." ( Poem by Dylan Thomas: https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/do-not-go-gentle-good-ni... )
And into this goodnight I shall awake once again to rage into the light. I am never giving up.
Cheers,
Susannah

Hi, Susannah. There is a lot of wisdom in most of Dylan's lyrics. Be inspired and keep going. Beautiful post.
Thanks
Hennie
Hey thank you so much!! Yes I love Bob Dylan who I am more familiar with; but after reading more of Dylan Thomas's poem Into the Goodnight I want to learn more about him too.
Cheers :)

I've always liked that Dylan Thomas quote ever since I first heard it in "Back to School." Who says you can't learn something good from Rodney Dangerfield movies???
Rodney Dangerfield who knew?! :) I remember the movie Back to School too. I will have to watch it again :)
Listen closely to the exam at the end, and you'll hear some words you know.....
I will have to do that :)
