On the question of 12 characters max in a domain name for a new website, am I to understand that -
1) domain names in the SiteDomain platform may only contain 12 characters

When you buy a custom domain name, you can have it as long as you want. :) The 12 characters max may be just for the subdomain names. There is no restrictions on the number of characters when you buy your own domain names.

Little mama, thanks for your response. Very helpful.
Thanks again.

In an effort to make a Post Page for my blog, I inadvertently duplicated the name. Now both are seen at the top of the page. Does anyone know what I should do to delete the dup

You may also want to review this WA blog post I created a while back:

A picture or a link would help but I think the problem could be your permalink. Click 'Edit' next to the permalink then copy the correct title and past it into the permalink space. WordPress will convert it to a proper permalink for you. Remember to update.

If it's something else then PLEASE give us a link or a picture.

Hi Marion
Thanks for your reply. The name of the Post page in "Aspects of Life." My problem is that I typed in the name twice thinking that the first time did not register, but now both names are showing at the top of the page.
One is working OK, but the other is giving me a 404 error. The permalink is showing only one name and I figure that if I try to delete it, the whole page will go. What do you think I should do?

Jem

The problem is not your post or page it's your menu. Go into your menu and delete the one which links to the non-existent "aspects-of-life-2".

Hi Marion
Just managed to get to your reply. I went into the menu and there they both were - same name (neither had the 2 though). I cancelled the 2nd one and - BINGO! - it's gone.

Thank you so much!

Jem

Hi Jem,

When you first login, go to Posts > All Posts

Then, hover over one of the two posts.(The Title area)

Click Trash.

That should remove if from view.

Hi PJ
Thanks for your reply. I read your blog post, but it doesn't seem to apply. I have a static homepage and a post page that I named "Aspects of Life" and did it twice in error so the name is showing twice at the top of the page. One is OK, but the other gives a 404 error.

I checked back with Settings>Readings to see if the name was duplicated there, but it is not. Only one name is showing up in the permalink and I fear that if I delete it, the whole page will go. What do you think?

I don't want to send it to the trash.
Jem

Hi PJ
Marion was able to solve the puzzle. Just as she advised, I went into the menu, found both names and cancelled one. That was it!
Thank you, however, for your input. I do appreciate your efforts.

Hi please can you give me more details about video is it for your site or is it to do with a training video here... regarding static page this might help you though please stick with your training and do not skip or jump ahead.

Hi Katie,
Thank you for responding and for the link 'Bog Roll.'
[Actually, I am almost at the end of the Certification Courses and was just doing some revision after having left off for about 7 months.]

I am referring to the training video in Course 1 Lesson 6 (not Lsn 8 - sorry, my error), Getting Your Site Ready for SEO.

I do not understand why there is no mention of a static page in the training video, but is mentioned in my actual corresponding SEO/General Settings page.

In my SEO page, the statement "Use static front page instead" is right after "Home keywords (comma separated)" and before "Keyword Settings," and the option DISABLED (and not ENABLED) is checked, whereas that statement is not in the training video.

What concerns me most is why the option DISABLED (and not ENABLED) is checked seeing that my front page is set as static.

I am trying to follow the Blog Roll training and, if you do not mind, I will surely get back to you if I need to.

Many thanks.

Jem

Glad your working through it however if you get stuck and need a bit more on it Shawn did a good tutorial

sorry posted wrong link :(

it is this one

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I will most certainly check it out.
Many thanks again.

There are two icons for linking a page or image on WP visual page. I would like to know what is the difference between them and which is the correct one to use for linking to a

not all themes have the edit advance on it mine do not..unless you are experienced in advance stuff I would leave it you could go to wordpress and check out the theme or if you want to practice with this feature I would use a practice site if you do not have one set it up in siterubix

Katie,
Thanks for your response. I just wanted to be sure that I was using the correct one. I have since decided to leave the 'Advanced' link well alone.

About the practice site, how does that work, wouldn't I have to get a domain name and all that stuff?
Jem

no you would not need a domain your go to siterubix , click build a site give it any name and just use it to practice or try out new things like plugins or themes it means if something does not work or causes conflicts with plugins it will not harm your working site

Thak you very much, Katie. Will try it out

Ignorant is right. First button is to add clickable link to any text and second one is for removing added link from text.

Thanks for your reply skmali,

I know what you mean, but that is not what I am referring to. There are two insert links and one 'remove' link. One of the 'insert' links is marked 'Advanced.'

Please see my reply to Ignorant. You may wish to look at his recent reply as well. I will check on the link he has suggested; maybe I will get my answer.

However, I think that I will just use the regular one and ignore the 'Advanced' link.

Jem

HI Bert
Thanks for your prompt response.

I am referring to the two icons for linking. One is next to the icon for removing a link; that one is marked 'Insert/edit link' and the other is not close to them. It is marked Insert/Edit Advanced link.' What is the difference between both links used for linking.

Please let me know. Thanks.
Jem

Hello Jem, I have been looking around and the button you mention is not a default button, because I cannot find in my editor.
Probably the reason is that I have changed my SEO from the all in one to Yoast...

But you can find some info on this site about the advanced link button:

Thank you Bert. Will check it out.
