8 Tips to Remain Productive During Coronavirus

Even though you are a member of WA does not mean that you’re used to working from home. Many of you still have 9-5 jobs until this WA gig can pay all the bills. Because of this virus, you might be working your 9-5 remotely.

Now you’re home all day and that TV and/or couch looks pretty tempting. Oh, the refrigerator is calling. Maybe I should do a load of laundry. I can call a friend and we’ll just talk a minute. SO many distractions and no boss around the corner holding you to the task at hand. Procrastination at its finest. How do I know all this………….I’ll give you one guess. LOL

I saw an article from Prevention the other day. It was written to assist employees working remotely during the Coronavirus Pandemic. However, I hope it will help those working WA full time as well. So, to share some of their tips: (list theirs, commentary mine):

  • 1- Establish Workday Hours

WA is so flexible that sometimes we blur the lines between work and personal time. Make sure you set aside a block of time to WORK whether it’s for your 9-5 or WA.

  • 2- Get Into the Right Mindset

Do whatever it is that energizes you in the morning. It could be workout, it could be coffee (you don’t want to know me before caffeine). Perhaps it is devotional time. Whatever it takes to make you feel like you can take on whatever the day brings.

  • 3- Get Out of Your PJs

They may be comfortable and I admit I’ve been guilty of staying in mine all day. However, changing sends a signal to your brain that it is time to work. I do feel different when I’m not in PJs. Besides, I heard that we should try our clothes on periodically during this time to make sure we still fit in them.

We won’t discuss the WalMart people who shop in them. I have no words …..

  • 4- Designate a Specific Work Area

You want to find a place where you won’t be distracted and that’s different for everyone. I can work on my kitchen table even though I have office space. Some people CAN work at the beach but I’m totally distracted. We’re all different so find a place where you can focus on the task at hand.

  • 5- Track Your Time

Notice how your time is spent. Are you spending a LOT of time answering emails or getting sidetracked on social media? Do you spend a lot of time on the phone? Maybe some of your tasks can be streamlined to save time/effort.

  • 6- Prioritize Your to-do List

Make a list of things you want to accomplish for the day and prioritize it. Some things are less important and can wait. Don’t just do all the easy things. Sometimes it helps to get the hard stuff done first. At the end of the day, you want to feel like you’ve accomplished something.

  • 7- Set a Timer

Determine what your personal attention span is before you start getting blurry eyed and lose focus. Set your timer for that chunk of time and get up from the computer and take a small break. It’s good for your eyes to look into the distance for a while anyway. Maybe even take a short walk to get refreshed. Get some Vit D outside which is good for your immune system. OK, get a snack too. Sorry, couldn't resist this.

  • 8- Practice “Monotasking”

Try focusing and finishing one task at a time instead of trying to do multiple things at once. Get one task done well vs three tasks done poorly.

There are advantages to being home all day. Let’s take advantage of them while still being productive. I hope you find a nugget in here that will help you.

Be careful out there and be safe. This too shall pass and we'll all be wiser and stronger!!!!!

Thanks for your post Debbi. I do have a daily, weekly and monthly to-do list. They include housekeeping items, scheduled bill payments, daily training at WA and office work for the brick & mortar business, etc. What I do have to watch is to start in the morning with my chores and take frequent breaks like you suggest. Thanks and with gratitude
Jeannette

Sometimes I wish there was 32 hours in the day!!!

Yes I know that feeling lol

Hi Sui,
Great post a lot of helpful tips to encourage us along this journey. Such a good idea to do a list for the day, I've never done it I just go with the flow and accomplish things as I see fit.
When I start a task I finish it till it's done I can never leave it half way complete.

With all this spare time on my hands since we're on lockdown here in Texas. I have a lot of time to continue with my training.

Stay well and be safe
Cheers
Cecelia

Yeah, I've been a list person my whole life. It gives me a sense of accomplishment to check something off. Also, I'm a visual person so that helps. However, aside from the PJs, all these are suggestions so you have to do what works for YOU to accomplish your goals.

~Debbi

I do the pajama thing also so much comfortable, yeah I know what you mean about people wearing pajamas at Walmart. I've seen a lot of them there in PJs also. Maybe their sleep walking lol. Maybe I will start a to do list and see how it goes. I do like your suggestions.

Cheers
Cecelia ;-)

Hello, Debbi and thanks for a very informative post.
Nicola and I are doing all these.
Great advice and let us use this time wisely.
All the best
Darren :)

I hope you're better at using these than I am most days. You have each other right up front and personal for inspiration though. I need someone kicking me periodically. LOL.

~Debbi

Debbie, you wrote this with me in mind. lol

I do this just about every day. Because, I have been working from home for a few years with my event and Food truck business, which now is DEAD!, I seem to function only on a list of THINS TO DO, which I write out the night before. (Funny I had just written my list for tomorrow) before I read your post,

I thank God, I never have been the person who watched soap operas, or Judge Judy during the day. That is the worst habit to break if you are serious about working from home unsupervised.

Your post is true in every aspect, this should help a lot of people, if you really want to work from home during these times, and succeed.

One of the key parts of your list, is telling the family DO NOT DISTURB, until a specific hour, or the family or friends will be interrupting you, and then you will accomplish nothing.

Great Post, I can attest, IT WORKS!!!

BLESSINGS to you on your journey here at WA.

Thank YOU. I survive on to-do lists. I've been doing them since I was old enough to write I think (can you say nerd). I don't always prioritize well though AND I get sidetracked.

Oh, NO! No soaps for me either. Judge Judy is ok when I'm eating dinner. Sometimes she's hard on digestion though. LOL I actually don't watch much TV at all! Maybe on Sat night a sappy Hallmark movie.

Thank you for confirming and blessings to you as well!!!

~Debbi

Truth be told, they're all about the same. However, if Ryan Peavy is in one (Mr Darcy), I'm glued to the TV!!!

Some very valuable advice, Debbi.
Even though I work home all the time, some of your tips are good reminders to me. For instance, Prioritising my to-do list and Monotasking.

Thank you,
Valerie

Thank You, Valerie. I have the same issue AND you can add getting sidetracked for me.

~Debbi

Absolutely, Debbi. I overlooked that one. Getting sidetracked certainly applies to me, too!
