The 2020 Derecho storm that hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Hi everyone!
Last Monday, we had a storm like no other. A "derecho," or an in-land hurricane hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We have been without power for 7 days now. When the city was hit by this storm with winds raging over 700 mph, 10 million acres of crops were destroyed in minutes throughout Iowa. Some have had their power restored. Trees throughout the area are uprooted.

It's been 7 days since the storm hit us; people are out rebuilding, but some businesses are still shut down and probably won't survive.

It seems everything is pushing us toward the online world these days.

I hope you all stay safe and well. Despite the destruction, we're all ok here. Just busy rebuilding! We're grateful that no one was injured in our area but sadly, three people died at the time of the storm in Iowa.

I'm so glad you're all ok and hope you get power very soon. You
all definitely felt the full brunt of the storm. We are in eastern Illinois and got hit with the storm as well. Luckily, everyone in our family had their power back on as of yesterday.

We had 15 trees in our yard either completely uprooted or snapped off, so I can attest to how strong the winds were. You are all in our prayers for a safe and speedy recovery.

Hi Janelle,

Wow that's a lot of trees for sure. Those uprooted trees are so eerie, aren't they? They're everywhere here.

It seems today the city is coming back to life. A lot more businesses open today.

Thank God hope is still alive (and hard work). I'm glad to see that so many home have power now; I can wait :)

I'm glad you're ok, too Janelle. Thanks for the message, and of course the prayers!

Peace and best wishes,
Suehila
