Oh dear: not sure I can do this!

I've got to lesson 10 in the first training course - the one about 'mastering social engagement', and I've got cold feet. I have very limited experience of Facebook and have never used any of the other sites mentioned. The thought of creating all those accounts sent me into a flat spin! I'm not sure I want to put my name and photo 'out there'.

Can anyone help please?

This advice is solely based on my personal experience, but I felt the same way when I got to this part of the training. Honestly I have such strong feelings about social media - it kind of makes me ill that most people from my generation play out their entire personal lives on it. I was a super "late bloomer" finally creating a Facebook account loonnnggg after most of my family and friends and I post on it once in a blue moon, or almost never!

I did follow the training and set up my social media accounts for my business though because I trust WA enough to know that it's suggested for a good reason, and also because all the reputable and successful internet marketers mention how much it can help grow your business.

So my suggestion is to take the plunge, in my experience if it makes you uncomfortable it's a good sign you should do it. On the flip side, don't let it scare you that social media can make or break your business - you can certainly build a reader base and make sales form your website without the use of it, but when used the right way it's a great tool to share your content and promote your products to a much larger audience and that extra reach can result in more loyal readers and more money in your pocket!

Also, if you're not comfortable with it, you don't have to put a picture of your face on your profile, although you will hear different opinions and some say it makes it more personal, you can use your website logo instead - which can be quite effective for branding and build consistency throughout all your social media platforms. Also there are so many platforms out there nowadays, I just chose Facebook, GooglePlus, Twitter and Pinterest - it's a great place to start. Hope this helps - just my two cents =)

Hello Jess
Thank you for taking the time to leave me such a thoughtful response. very much appreciated. i wish you continued success, Sue

Anytime Sue =) and same to you!

Hello Sue,

All experts were once beginners - don't let it overwhelm you, as with anything it is simply a case of getting used to it.

The training is laid out in a way that you can break it down into bitesize chunks, so just take your time with it :)

With regards to 'putting yourself out there', remember that many of the worlds greatest writers wrote under pseudonyms - you could do the same, a first name and maybe abbreviated last name?

What you have to remember though is that once you get momentum with your blog people will look up to you as an expert in your topic of choice (even if you might not feel like it). There's nothing really to be worried about :)

Hope that helps.

Thanks Dale: I'll give your comments some thought

I'm sorry, no help from me. I do not have a Facebook account and do not believe it is necessary for marketing as most others (seem to) do.

Thank you mickeyb123. How do you market without facebook et al?

Old school; Article marketing and guest blogging, mostly articles and quality posts on my own websites.

There is too much crap going on at Facebook and there were marketers, making millions before FB came along!

Mickeyb
ps I am NOT saying do not use facebook, just be careful because you can spend a lot of time there, occasionally with little response.

Thanks Mickeyb123: more for me to think about
