Lima, Peru is a Great Place to Retire
Lima, Peru is one of the many beautiful and important cities in South America. From the shore, those rocks rise over 1,000 feet to the plateau on which the city is built. With a population of over 10 million and history dating back to the 1500s, there is much to see and do.
Being on the coast, I thought it would be very hot. Before we arrived, I told our landlord for the week we would need air conditioning. But when we arrived, it was quite cold and we eventually asked for and moved to a warmer apartment!
While we were there, a census was held. On that Sunday, all the residents were required to stay in their apartments all day until 5:00 pm. Lima looked like a ghost town - no traffic, no people, and no open shops or restaurants. We did manage to find a wonderful breakfast buffet at the Marriott Hotel. But at 5:00, everyone scurried out of their apartments and the restaurants were serving within an hour.
Peru is a beautiful country and the influence of the Incas is everywhere. We also visited Arequipa, Lake Titicaca, and Cusco, which was the headquarters of the Incan Empire. And of course, don't miss Machu Picchu!
Our visits to many places in Latin America helped me select my niche, Retire Outside the USA. And our experiences are the subject of many of my blog posts. It was a natural choice for me because I knew a lot about the subject and I had many experiences to write about.
Thanks for reading.

I have always wanted to visit a few cities in SA, but have not had the ability to do so to this point. You description of Lima is wonderful. Is there any worry about the political situation. We have been to Mexico a few times and have had a few scares. Still the culture and country all over SA are have a great attraction for me.
We have lived in Latin America for almost 4 years. Our favorite is also our current home - Medellin, Colombia. Yes, that's right, the former home of the notorious Pablo Escobar. But he was killed in 1993, and Medellin is a safe, beautiful city with perfect weather, 3 million people, and no bugs!
We have lived here 1 1/2 years and have no intention of leaving. Come visit and see for yourselves. The cost of living is about 30% of that of NYC. Rent is cheap, and you don't need or want a car.
Awesome post, Steve1!1 Thank you for sharing this beautiful city with us. I have friends in Brazil. May have to add a side trip when I go to visit them! Christine

Peru has been on my bucket list for some time. Are you living there now?
Thanks for the info.
Peru should be on everyone's bucket list. Did you know they have 5,000 species of potato? They are the definition of "Foodies".
I was on a bus at 16,050 feet. The Incans were geniuses at engineering. There are many walls still there that were built over 500 years ago. Without power tools!
