Home Office Configuration

All of the authors I read concerning "working from home" emphasize several items to consider.

  • A dedicated space for your business so you feel like you are at work even though it is in your own home.
  • Exercise and health - things that can often be neglected when conducting business from the "comfort" of your home.

In effort to combine these two items I configured my home office to serve as an office, a gym/yoga studio and a reading room. I have worked in this environment for almost fifteen years. I work, exercise and read all in this one room. It has worked very well for me. Some people are not fortunate enough to have a room dedicated for this purpose and it is necessary to work from a kitchen or dining room table. However, when you can convert a room in your home for the purpose of managing your own business, I highly encourage you to do so. At one time I converted a closet before we moved into our current home. Since we will soon be downsizing to a "tiny home", I may need to do this again. :-)

Below are some pictures (not as cool as those Rick of cosmicradio posts) of how I set up my home office.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and productive Tuesday.

All the best,

Steve and Cathy Cox

Love it Steve. Very innovative. :)

Thank you, Samir. What is the saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention"?

I love this Steve. Great pictures, serious reminder and honestly, exercise for me has taken a back seat and I'm not proud of it. Thank you for this poignant reminder.

Thank you very much, Chuka! Perhaps that is why I enjoy the yoga because it doesn't seem like exercise but the benefits have been nothing short of fantastic. That combined with the new DASH Diet have made a difference in both mind and body.

Again, thanks for taking the time!

Steve

Very nice setup! My desk is in the hallway of the laundry area. It's the best we could do. 960 sq ft is not big enough for a single room devoted to an "office".

Kathy - We are going to be in the same situation in a year. Once we sell this place we are downsizing to the maximum! My next office is probably going to be the bathroom! :-)

LOL.....well that's not good!

Like the saying goes Kathy. You gotta do what you gotta do. We are determined to become minimalists and live with a lot less of everything than we have now!

It will be a challenge but one that I am looking forward to as soon as possible!

I could work in there. Very nice setup. You've inspired me. I'm going to finish my office space today.

Wow, Kate. I don't think I have inspired anyone since my Marine Corps days! Thanks for the kind compliment!

What a great room. This is a good idea. I try to take exercise breaks three times during the day..... but I have to leave my office.

That is terrific James that you take the breaks. It is both good mentally and physically!

When I stop work for the day, I usually take a 3-mile walk to clear the cobwebs in addition to doing my yoga and elliptical trainer.

Thanks for having taken the time my friend!

Steve

Looks great Steve, no wonder you get through so much work!!!

Thanks, Michael ! The problem is making myself get OUT of the office every once in a while. Eisenhower is still President right?

Yeh, I think so but there is an unusual incumbent on the horizon!

LOL - You made my day !

That is a very nice setup, Steve.

My home office is setup up in a spare room, but nothing as nice as that.
I have computer cabinet desk. It is like a wardrobe but for designed as a computer station. Have an elliptical and treadmill in there as well (which after the heart attack, I definitely need to start using more often).

Thanks for sharing. It has given me some ideas for changing mine around some.

Jimmy.

Glad to help Jimmy. Definitely, continue to use the treadmill. We want you around for a long time ! No more heart attacks, please !

All the best,

Steve

I wish I had the room for this Steve but since my daughter's marriage broke down and she moved back home, there went the spare room! (Don't misunderstand - I wouldn't have her anywhere else, and I willingly have her with us, but it means no spare room at all!)

I understand Jude completely. Four and a half years ago our 43-year-old daughter (divorced) moved back home with our grandson (now 9). We gave up 50% of the house to them. Like you, we would not have them anyplace else. BUT we have given her one more year to get set up on her own again, which is why we are moving to a Tiny House!

Life just does not turn out the way we envision sometimes. So you "make do" with what you have and go forward.

All the best my friend,

Steve

Looks better than mine, now I am jealous. just kidding. thanks. Steve

But Mike - I can't fix cars in my office ! :-)

Ya, I forgot that it may get a little greasy in there.
Thanks, was wondering how things are going for you. hope everything is okay.

Thanks for asking Mike. I start my 3 part time jobs next week, so it is going to mean burning some midnight oil to move forward in WA. But I plan on working for one more year and then it is all Wealthy Affiliate at that point!

Again, thanks for asking my friend!

Great, I will watch over you, it is hard for most people to do that much work in a day. I trained myself years ago. So it is a habit now.
You be careful and take care for this year.

Thanks brother I will do....as long as you do the same :-)

Thanks,

I really need to look into this!

Thank you Steve!

My Pleasure my friend !

Steve
