Conversational Hypnosis: Chunking

Did you ever get the feeling when you're talking to a person and you start and conversation about something(like bikes for example) and before you realise it, you're talking about something completely different? And later you realise..what just happend?

Or that you want to make a point and suddenly another person joins the coversation and just after all the talking you realise that that person had made his or her point? You're just like..wtf happend?

If that is the case, that person used something we call "chunking". Chunking is something that everyone does unconscious. Most people dont realise that when they are talking about something they either "upchunk" or "downchunk" the conversation. For example:

-You talk about bikes. Person B talks about "traffic" which still is in the line of "bikes" then suddenly person B talks about the roads..still it has something to do with bikes. And before you know it you talk about the politics in the U.S. How bad the government is for example.

And most people just go with the flow of the conversation, which is all good if you're with friends. But there are people out there who do this on puprose. They basically "hijack" a conversation, they still match with your words. Then(depending on what they want to archieve) they go up(chunks) or down(chunks) and make their point and everyone agrees with that person.

Just know that public speakers, important persons all do this, and this is a part of "conversational" hypnosis. So when you learn this skill, you will able to protect yourself against people who do this. Also you can take control of a conversation to inspire, motivate and stimulate people :)

I agree with most of this material, but not all! For me, it is more about listening than taking control of anything. In the end, it's less about me and more about them and their needs.

Don't get me wrong....when I worked in sales before, they wanted my suggestions for different things, however I had to build a trust in them.

I get the gist of what you're saying, however for me it doesn't work in all cases.

You are right, it its about them and not about me or the one doing it.. Its more a general information that there are ppl out there doing this on purpose. So when oyu realise that you can prtect yourself against those kind of ppl. When your intention is good you can use it so imspire, stimulate and motivate ppl with it as well
