To Block or Not To Block?

I have been working on my website to refresh the content, a little face lift but a lot more affiliate product content development and niche focus.

Therefore, I jumped into Gutenberg Blocks as the new kid on the block, pun intended...

However, it was a painful experience as I go back-an-forth Classic and Blocks.

Then I receive feedback not to have both Classic and Gutenberg running concurrently.

I have to decide...

To Block or Not To Block?

There are many opinions on this.

  • The purist says Classic is best.
  • I was told, if it ain't broken, don't fix it
  • Some say, let the system stabilizes then we use it
  • Others worry, I am still learning WordPress and now... Blocks?

I disabled my Classic and continue using just Gutenberg Blocks editor today.

A little commitment for me to discover and learn at the same time.

Blocks provides:

  • A more dynamic page/post layout with media rich content
  • You can add more features to your page, like columns, extra buttons, color editing, HTML, short code, image and the list goes on
  • A more visual interface with "drag and drop" feel, slightly closer to WYSIWYG (though no exactly there yet)
  • Merge and use fewer plug-ins which I am hoping for but what an irony, blocks are also a plug-in!

I am writing this because one of my old post which was edited in Classic is having problems loading and I do not understand what is causing it. It may not be the fault of the Gutenberg Blocks Editor, but I thought I would just lament in a blog about blocks which are blocking my progress.

Hah, now that this blog is done. You can comment or discuss your blogging experience using Blocks below.

Now, back to where I left off working...

It's a question I've asked myself several times Stanley and had previously resisted the idea of going over to Guteberg.

I'm going to blow Marion's trumpet here because her training on it is the one I'll be using to see if it get's me to change over... There's also lots of other training in there from Marion but the Gutenberg stuff is just two clicks away!

Thanks, Mark. I am giving this another several days to see if I will continue of KIV it.

Thanks for sharing Stanley.

You are welcome.

Good luck with your redesign.

Thank you, Bernardo.

I use elementor as my editor. Classic editor was my go-to back in the day.
I didn't like Gutenberg, and would us classic instead. Then I discovered elementor.

Another option. Would you say Elementor does what blocks would do?

Elementor offers templates with sections, like blocks, where text and images can be added.

Thanks, will look it up.

Blocks cause a hassle for me with the theme I chose. And google said that the content was too wide for mobile phoine usage. So back to classic for me. I flip flop between the two now. Jen

Thanks for the info. Will check with my theme and also the responsive width.
