I was reading an article that states the following reasons are why a cyclist is a disaster for the economy.

  • He does not buy a car
    • He won't be taking a car loan
    • He does not buy gasoline
    • He won't need to buy car insurance
    • He won't need car repair shops and services
    • He will not use paid parking
    • Does not become obese
    • Do not buy drugs
    • Do not go to private doctors
    • Cyclist live longer and consume more resources

A cyclist add nothing to the GDP.

A 💭 thought pops up... must everything we do and every choice we make about the GDP or economics?

As opposed to the cyclist, every fast food outlet creates about 30 jobs - 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 weight loss specialist apart from the people working in the outlets.

    This may sound hilarious...

    What would you rather have?

    More cyclists or McDonalds?

Do you have a cycling niche? or you have a fast food niche?

I will just end with what John Lennon said...

“As a kid I had a dream — I wanted to own my own bicycle. When I got the bike I must have been the happiest boy in Liverpool, maybe the world. I lived for that bike. Most kids left their bike in the backyard at night. Not me. I insisted on taking mine indoors and the first night I even kept it in my bed.”

    — John Lennon, British musician

Very good post, Stanley. Some people just don't think before they open their mouths and say stupid stuff like that. I wish I could still ride a bike. I would ride it all over town to do my errands. My car burns more gas in town than on the road, so it would be beneficial for me. As a child, I received my first bike for Christmas in the fourth grade. I was so proud of it. I didn't bring it in the house but I did park it outside under the bedroom window of my parents. I use to imagine that my bike was a horse and I was riding as fast as he would go through the country. Funny what kids dream. Anyway, just my thoughts.

      Take care
      Charlotte

Charlotte, many have fond memories of bikes as a child. Urbanization has made it unsafe to ride in many areas, therefore we hope the new normal allow some space for more biking.

      Hi Stanley,
The Cyclist in my area all seem to be very Conscientious and Courteous to Drivers. I personally have never had a bad experience with them. They always move out of the way of Traffic even when they ride in packs. You also forgot to mention that one of the greatest benefits of Cycling is reduced Air Pollution from Car Emissions. That just doesn't help them, it helps everyone. In our 'Modern Society' when many are in a hurry to be somewhere 'yesterday,' having patience with Cyclist is more important than ever due to the contribution they are making in their own way to the Planet. It is obvious that the author of the Article you read had a different perspective. I will just say that Patience is a Virtue. Of course that didn't come from me. I've forgotten who coined that phrase. Was it Confucius or Jesus? LOL! Either way, everyone seems to have forgotten that automated transportation will be out on the market soon enough that will solve all of these types of issues. LOL! Thanks Stanley for another thought provoking article.

      PEACE,
      Deatrice

Deatrice, it is great that you have responsible cyclists in your area. I do that too for 2 reasons, one is safety the other is the spirit of sharing the same road.

Reducing air pollution is definitely true. The symbiotic relationship would be calculating carbon footprint. You are right that more cyclist will leave a smaller car on footprint for the driver.

Patience is necessary whenever we work in any community or groups. “Together we can do more” can only work is we are patient.

      Thanks. Appreciate you sharing. 👍🏼

I loved my bike also! I lived on that thing as a young child and teen.

Who cares if those economies crash, healthy people create healthy economies.

      More demand for healthy clothes
      More demand for healthy food
More demand for healthier options in everything

Oh and healthy people that become Centurions!

      I'm for that!

Thanks for contributing. You made some great points.

Healthy people create healthy economies 👍🏼.

Great post, Stanley. I had to read it because I thought I missed something and maybe I was OK because I didn't cycle. LOL
You make a great point, there has to be a balance in life.
It is not all about the economy, nor is it about health; my take is we should do what is best for us, and in the end, it will all work out.
Have a blessed day and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, Ray. Balance is necessary to sustain.

Great post Stanley. For sure riding a bicycle is great for your health and saves a lot of money.

My story on the bicycle is not exactly like John Lennon but I loved it. Being a child I took several junk bicycles to make one but it was great, then I bought one at age 15 and would ride it everywhere.

If able a bicycle would be my preference for all the reasons you have listed. I will in time have content on my niche in regards to a bicycle.

Thanks for sharing, stay safe, and enjoy your day.

Thanks, Bobby. Many of us have a story about our relationship with bicycles. Thanks for sharing yours with us.
