Athazagoraphobia

This is a new word for me. When I google it, I found the following:

Athazagoraphobia, means the fear of

  • being forgotten
  • being ignored
  • being replaced
  • becoming insignificant.

When I first came across the word, I cannot pronounce it and it is still a tongue twister for me.

However, when I found out the meaning... my gosh!

Don't you think that this is the reality in the world today?

Do we or know people around us that...

  • fear being forgotten?
  • fear being ignored?
  • fear being replaced?
  • and fear becoming insignificant?

A word that needs to be heard more because I believe Athazagoraphobia is on the rise in our society.

We have a popular social media culture and reality TV that make children grow up thinking they will all be models, rock stars and celebrities.

I met a young person recently who says she wants to be an influencer or social media celebrity of sorts.

Nothing wrong with that but many will be ignored, replaced after a while or forgotten.

...and these Athazagoraphobia can lead to suicide and other social issues.

This is not just a young person or millennial issue.

Research has shown it is predominantly prevalent in 45+ year old men too.

Why?

Because as you get older you start to worry about:

  • being forgotten
  • losing your job
  • missed out on that promotion
  • perceived as a failure
  • ignored by your family, your friends, your colleagues and society as a whole.

It is also very common to worry about your ability to provide for your family now you're getting older and whether you'll be able to leave behind a legacy when you pass.

Some are concerned about whether they have really achieved anything in their life or did anything of meaning to be remembered by.Now, we have to ask ourselves if this has anything to do with what we are doing here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Researched has also shown the 45+ year old male demographic is one of the biggest groups in online marketing.

Why?

Maybe, many sees this as one last attempt to make a significant impact.

You may want to:

  • To build an empire of your own to be proud of after decades of toiling away making others rich off your labor.
  • To leave a legacy behind for the kids and grand-kids so they remember you.
  • To make your looming retirement more comfortable financially.

Here's the thing...

Whatever the reason the FEAR is real...

  • You don't want to be forgotten or feel insignificant.
  • No one wants to feel like their best years are behind them.

Which is why no matter if you're a fresh-faced millennial, a 45+ year moving closer to retirement, or you're already well and truly in the senior camp then TODAY is the best time to start working on being significant.

I wrote a blog on, "When is the best time to plant a tree?" based on the following quote...

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

If you have not done anything in the past...

Now is the time to build your online business and your plans for the future.

Starting TODAY is the only sensible and logical option you have.

Time ticks away and waits for no one and believe me, it isn't going to get any easier later.

The risk of Athazagoraphobia is real.

... and the chance of achieving anything substantial, making an impact on others lives, providing for others or leaving a legacy is slim.

So with all that being said if you want to build a significant and evergreen business you can be proud of. One that earns for you now and in the long term...

You have everything you need here at WA. WhAt are you WAiting for?

Hi Stanley,

I agree that ATHAZAGORAPHOBIA is more prevalent than we realize. It is fine to recognize it. But there is a danger if we dwell on it the law of self fulfilling proposition will apply.

My way of countering it is to focus on positive activities, like the WA program, to help neutralize the negative consequences this creates. We need to offer WA as a solution to folks who have this problem.

Thanks for bringing this word to our attention and how WA can be used to address it head on to banish it forever.

Cheers!

Edwin

You are right. It can be a self-fulfilling prophecy if we give it room in our mind. I agree doing something positive always helps because it reduces the room for negative thinking.

Thanks for another great post, Stanley. I've never heard of this phobia but I'm sure there are many other phobias I don't know about.
I believe all the phobias are related to our previous lives, I had claustrophobia and managed to get rid of it. I think it is possible to do something with every phobia if the person wants to.

You are right that it doesn't matter what age we are, we can start today. Planting the seeds right now!
Have a beautiful Sunday!
Lenka

Yes, Lenka. If you have it, then take effort to overcome but if you don’t, be mindful so you don’t develop it. Fear is a mindset reinforced by habits. Therefore, if you don’t allow it into your mind and it doesn’t control your actions, these habits cannot develop.

FOMO; is a thing, across all genders.

It can loom in your life, until that is like you say, Stanley we do something about it, take action and kick that fear of missing out to the curb.

I guess it is the age we live in, it is always omni present, the best cure is to stop creating outcomes based on assumptions.

Is to stop worrying about what other people think about us.

At some point in time a beautiful woman can walk into a room and create a presence.

At some point in time she walks into a room and is invisible.

Better to breakthrough, and to start creating your own outcomes like you say, Stanley; WA has the knowledge, resources and community to help make it happen

Yes, indeed. You are here, you can use these resources to your benefit. If you don’t leave any room for this phobia, it can’t develop.

You write such good posts -- I always enjoy reading them.

Well, at least I'm not a male over 45. I think at my 81 years I don't have to worry too much about athazagoraphobia. I'm building...have to do it fast because of my age, but, no, wait -- it doesn't matter about speed, as long as we keep moving. Okay, got it...will just keep on keeping on,.

You are right. Do something positive so you don’t let fear creep in.
