Is comfort zone really comfortable-Diaries of a middle aged woman

Wealthy affiliate is not a place for comfort zones. We are here to be removed from the things that hold us back. Do you suspect that you are in your comfort zone? I describe a comfort zone as a place of abnormal comfort. This is when you are actually comfortable in a position where you are not supposed to be comfortable.

This post comes after an experience of mine. When I moved here in my abode area in 2006 April, this area was zoned semi-rural, semi-urban. It is fast becoming more urban as many people see value in buying land and building their houses. It is no longer how it used to look like when I started staying here.

When we bought into this neighbourhood, it was infested with frogs, snakes, and rats competing for space here. After the rain at night, you would never miss the croaking of frogs, yet today, you will actually miss the sound of frogs even after the rain.

With that background of my story, this is what I experienced. When we came here, the first thing that greeted us was rats inside and outside the house. There is nothing that I hate like being stunned by a rat racing away when I enter into any of the rooms in my house. This used to be our daily bread the first time we came here. We had to declare war against the rats as we would compete for the occupancy of the house.

We felt we had won the battle when we no longer had to compete with them in the house because we had eradicated them, at least for a long while.

But hang on, though they were no longer belly dancing in our house, they had found a nice spot to do their thing in our roof. For the longest of time, I remember how it was excruciatingly painful to catch asleep at night. We always wondered where they were getting food because they had all the energy at night between the roof and the ceiling.

At some point, we totally forgot about them and were able to catch our sleep even while they were holding different kinds of parties in the same space at night. Occasionally, whenever the noise levels were higher than normal, we would be woken by their noises, but under normal circumstances, we slept peacefully amidst the parties they were having.

Is it really normal? Have these creatures sold us lies that we can co-exist with their annoying sounds? Have you ever tried to catch sleep while these creatures are on about their business, screaming at the top of their lungs, dancing to their own music and chanting freedom chants in our own space?

Our dear Electrician became our Savior one day as he pointed out that our ceiling was full of rat poo, and he wondered if this is a good thing. Following his comments which were bound to embarrass us though it was not intentional on his side, we were forced to go on a rampage of eradicating our ceiling visitors.

He suggested we go to a farm store to buy rat tea bags and throw them in the trap door. I could not believe the peace that we suddenly enjoyed the first night without our so-called 'friends of the ceiling'. Till today, I still wonder how it became acceptable to be invaded by these creatures that were not even paying rent for the space they were occupying.

Can you see how even abnormal circumstances become a norm in our lives? Some people cannot live without abusive situations. Some of us are working in very toxic environments. These environments are so toxic that we fail to function properly, but it is hard to let go because it has become a norm. We were taught that we could not make it in life without a job.

If you read this till the end, it means that you know there is something in your life that needs your attention so you can beat it, or it could be that you enjoy reading. You are stronger than you want to believe. There is no job, no relationship, no marriage that is worth your sanity. Could you do something about it today?

You do not need to leave immediately. Start planning how you are going to deal with that situation now before it is too late.

This reminds me of my old house where squirrels, bats, birds, and the like came and went when they wanted! It has been a never ending battle with them, even though it is only a storage house now!

@Jeffrey Brown I ampathise, sometimes you cannot help but feel guilty because these creatures also need to live somewhere but when they become a nuisance, you can't help but get rid of them.

Very true, but we do what we can!

Jeff

Thank you for taking the time to share your story here in Wealthy Affiliate.

This post spoke NUMBERS to me.

I feel a bit like I am holding myself back...confidence issue? Not believing in myself? Don't have the courage to go outside my comfort zone?

It feels like all of these are happening at once for me.

My beloved and I share this account and work on our affiliate marketing business together so sometimes I think I rely too much on him to motivate us to get going...Which I know is not good. But the fact I am aware of that is improvement in itself!

I enjoyed reading your post. It gave me a new perspective on how I should approach the affiliate business. To find the motivation within myself and JUST EFFING DO IT.

Dont wait tomorrow, dont wait till next week, dont wait for my beloved to get on before me. To DO IT.

Thank you again for creating this post. I honestly was just scrolling through the feed just to be on WA and saw your post. I appreciate you.

Your response really touches me. This is what we are here for, to lift and motivate each other. This is what I love about the opportunity here in WA.
