Welcome back, everyone! Did you bring your popcorn today? If you did, you can sit back and relax, since we will be focusing on demonstrations that JavaScript can do.

LET’S RECAP

If you remember where we left of from our previous article, we got our web browser version in sync with the current date. As it turns out, I didn’t realize this wouldn’t be much of a problem, since there aren’t many deprecated features in the JavaScript language. Nonetheless, it is still a good idea to test your JavaScript to ensure it works with other browsers.

WELL, WHAT CAN WE DO WITH JAVASCRIPT?

That’s a good question, my fellow readers! You may already have some ideas of what it could do, but perhaps you don’t know most of the capabilities. What I will do is demonstrate by giving you screenshots of what I have found online of people who used JavaScript. I will also give you the references, so that you can check it out for yourself. Let the race begin!

1. Javascript on an iPhone Jaipho

Here’s the description of this app:

Here's what the app screen would look like first:

And, here’s what happens if you click on the left picture on the left most phone:

That was all done in JavaScript!

2. JavaScript in Adobe Reader – Run JavaScript in Document Open. Again, this is today’s date that was entered by using JavaScript in an Adobe PDF file:

When you first open the Adobe Reader, you get this dialogue:

No fret, because all it does is enter today’s date! And here are the results:

CONCLUSION

I decided to stretch this out a bit. I wasn’t sure how long this section this would be. Nonetheless, I wanted you to get quality content as you always get! I promise that after this you will have the meat and potatoes for all you lovers of chicken and beef. I will most likely not use the CODE tags used here in this blogging platform, as you could tell that I couldn’t indicate the proper code, when I plugged in an example. Therefore I will include them in screenshots, however I will only show the part that is essential for you to learn the concept at hand. Well, take your goats, unleash your lambs, take off your sombreros, and as always, I encourage you to ask questions, comment, or if you have any suggestion feel free to let me know. See you in the next part of the series! Hasta Luego!

Good to know all the docs and pdfs js interfaces with. My iPhone included is jam. Just made shortbread cookies topped with jam. This is all good stuff, smiley. Thanks!

Yeah. I imagine most people don't know what JavaScript is capable of. It is a powerful program, however interactivity is its' name of the game!

Wow, what a surprize, never heard of using JS for PDFs, although I generated some complicated ones with barcodes etc. for companies (using Java libraries).

I'm glad to hear that from you! This is the reason why I included this. This why I have a passion for this language.
