Daily Facts - Day #60: Billion dollar niches - The "eye-opener" 4 billion dollar insomnia
A niche that keeps up millions of people awake at night. Literally.
Yep ... Insomnia, is a very large problem. Worldwide.
Which means that there are literally tens of millions of people continuously searching for help.
According to several sources ...
- the global insomnia market reached $4 billion in 2016
- and it's estimated to reach $5 billion by 2023
- the US insomnia market is projected to reach $4.24 billion by 2021 from $3.38 billion in 2016
- among adults 35% have brief symptoms of insomnia
- among adults 10% have chronic insomnia disorder
And the Google Trends chart is very straightforward ... Here's the steady demand for the past 12 months (worldwide):
And when I said worldwide, I meant it. Check out the "Interest by region" stats:
And no wonder, Jaaxy gave me 42,464 AVG monthly searches for "insomnia".
And needless to say, there are many diffrent avenues and sub-niches: sleep disorders, cure for insomnia, genetic insomnia, sleep apnea, depression related insomnia, insomnia caused by pain, anxiety or drug addiction, etc.
Finally, the insomnia niche comes with a staggering volume of related products. Books, supplements, blankets, eye masks, natural oils, sleep audio albums, pillows, audiobooks, sensory sheets, organic products, relaxation programs, etc, etc. I found almost 100,000 (!) items only on Amazon.
My conclusion
Insomnia can be caused by many factors. Psychiatric or medical conditions, lifestyle issues, genetic factors, unhealthy sleep habits, individual biological factors, concerns about work, health, finances or family, etc.
Way too many reasons ... This is why there are millions of people affected worldwide. Making it a profitable niche with a steady, wordwide demand.

Yes, Zed. It has been and will stay or may increase over time. Thank you for bringing it up.
Hi Zed,
I am sleeping 10 h or more and have been so lazy in winter. I can lend my sleep to sleepless people (lol)
As someone who has suffered from insomnia for much of my adult life, I think you just gave me my niche. Being a therapist, I have been debating about different topics related to the mental health field, but when when I read your post it was like an awakening for me. (Yes, the pun is intended.) Thank you!
PM me your findings. Incurable insomniac here. I just figured I will catch up on my rest when I am 6 feet down. Following you now by the way.

So many sub niches, so many people looking for answers and so many solutions. Has to be a great opportunity. Thanks for sharing all the info.
Justin
As a full-fledged insomniac I can relate. Four good hours per night and maybe 7 hours once a week. Been like that for the last 25 years.
What would a day be without my Daily Facts?
Ten years from now I want to wake up to Daily Facts # 36,560.
Ever though of a Daily Facts for affiliate marketer e-book? (I will take 1% royalties on the idea).
Have a great holiday season Zed. Tomorrow work, then 3 days off for Jesus' birthday and spend time with my soon to be new family.

Another good idea, Zed. I have dealt with some insomnia issues, and at one time could have really used some help.
You've certainly given us enough ideas to start all 25 of our websites, if we wanted. Not me -- not enough hours in the day as it is. Great, though, for people looking for ideas.
Thanks Alaska buddy!
