Banner ads still works

Yesterday i was approved for a very lucrative affiliate program and I was looking for places to advertise this program ( my own websites wasn't a good fit )
I found a website with 2,9m visitors/mo with some very cheap ad space that would be a perfect fit for my offer.
All the ad space were sold out ecxept one and it was the primary ad space with a high click through rate.
It was a 300x250 banner ad above the fold inside the content and the price was $0,19 per 1000 impressions ( very cheap in my opinion )
I purchased 250,000 impressions ($47) my banner ad was approved and 4 hours after it went live the result were $170 in commissions for me (a very good ROI)
Have I hit a goldmine, or is it just a coincidence? I know more about this in a week or so.
But don't underestimate banner ads, they still work.

Thanks a million. I see no sense in chasing pennies and nickels with Adsense and Amazon. A couple of high ticket items sold will be more commission than years with A and A.

You're absolutely right. The offer i was promoting with my banner ad was web hosting. Everybody who wants to be visible online needs web hosting.
I get $100 in commission if someone sent from my link sign up for a $3/mo hosting account, not a hard sell.
When I get more than 30 sales, my commissions will be upgraded to $140/sale.
