How Did It Start?

I suffer from PTSD and I am unable to work due to the Mental Health Condition. It came about due to being attacked on duty when in the police. I have had a variety of websites that I set up using Wordpress. I had one which was quite successful relating to Bushcraft, this was luck. I wanted to start a new site and run it as a business, but not sure what todo I had a lot of knowledge I had picked up but didn't know how to use it effectively.

I came across Wealthy Affiliate by chance and joined free, I started the training and after two lessons I upgraded.

  • I worked everyday do what I could.
  • I tried to do regular posts,
  • At least a lesson a day
  • A minimum of ten comments a day, then I indreased to twenty.
What went wrong?

I had a problem and needed some help at home and called my daughters social worker. They triggered the PTSD. I was in hospital for the first time ever with problems with PTSD. Suddenly I couldn't do any work. Initially I couldn't because I had zero motivation, I could do nothing, I started messing around on my phone, surfing the net and playing games. I knew I had to do something.

I had to get back on track.

What did I do?

I realised that my mental health was not only making me get down, and experience and increase in PTSD symptoms such as fear, flashbacks, disassociation, isolation, the list goes on. I was procrastinating. What could I do?

One night I decided to take responsibility for myself. I set an alarm for 09.00hrs and deleted all the games on my phone. Then I made a list of jobs I wanted to do I included things that seem natural, such as

  • have breakfast
  • Have lunch
  • strip paint work in the hall way
  • paint wood work in hall way
  • read one chapter of book

Initially all these were practical things around the house that were generally jobs that would be done stood up. I decided to set a rule I didn't want to sit down for more than 15 minutes at a time. The idea was to get into a routine doing practical jobs. In the second day I wrote a second list of practical jobs and added a few admin jobs, calls to make emails to send.

I did ok up to this point if I didn't feel I was doing as well as I wanted I would do etra days to get into a routine. I gave myself rewards. If I succeeded I allowed myself to watch a tv programme in the evening or read a book, watch a movie etc.

How Do I Start To Work On My Business?

The next stage was to start introducing jobs for my business. I made another list of practical jobs and jobs on my business. The jobs for my business was things such as.

  • Check Google Analytics
  • write 10 Comments
  • Request Comments
  • Write and article
  • Complete a lesson

I started to work through jobs alternating between practical jobs (E.g washing up) and business jobs. Initially I struggled I did a lesson and looked at Google Analytics. Then I was struggling. I did no more that day but I was pleased I had moved forward and done a few extra jobs relating to my business.

The following day I decided I wanted to write an article so I did practicle jobs in the morning then after lunch I started writting an article. I struggled and I kept starting and stopping. A job that normally takes me an hour took about five hours. I was pleased and the following day I decided I was doing another article. This time I completed and article, 10 comments, reviewed analytics, answered some questions, requested comments. I felt I was back and will continue using a list of chores and business jobs to keep me going.

What Has This Got To Do With Me?

You may be thinking what has this to do with me? I don't suffer with mental health problems. You don't need to but you may procrastinate. You might even just be feeling down or had a few personal problems. Especially with what has happened in relation to COVID-19. Using a technique such as I have suggested will help you form a routine and help you get jobs done. Simple lists on a note pad or on your phone is all you need. I preffer an old fashioned written list. I can leave it out in the open wher I can see it all the time. Then I can see items ticked off and the list gets smaller and I see a reward getting closer.

You might think this is stupid or silly, but it help you reprogramme your brain and achieve your small goals each day when your motivation levels are low or non-existent.

Persevere enjoy your work and take your time. with the sytem learned through Wealthy affiliate using the resources available we can all experience success and happiness. I have and the PTSD is coming back under control. I cant wait to keep on progressing.

    Sorry what do you mean?

    What may appear to be dumb or silly at present, may not seem that way in the future! What sounds dumb to someone else may be smart to another! It depends on one's point of view!
