Windows no more!
After going through total chaos with the forced upgrade of Win 10, I have pulled the plug on MS Operating Systems. As of a few minutes ago, I successfully installed Linux Ubuntu and already love it.
I spent more than 12 hours individually changing administrative settings in Win 8.1 after finally getting Win 10 off my computer. This came after spending more than 7 hours with MS support, who ultimately expected me to pay them for the mess they caused me in the first place.
My computer is incompatible with Win10, yet 3x they forced it onto my computer. I caught the first 2 uploads right away and reverted back to Win 8.1, but the 3rd upload caught me at a time when I did not have time to remove it. That occurred a couple months ago.
It was always sketchy, but last week was when all ugliness broke loose. I could not access many files, images, documents, and so forth due to permission problems. I was the only user on the computer and marked as administrator, yet nothing I did would allow me access without selecting each file individually to change the settings. That would have been the fix, you'd think, but NO. When I tried to access some of the files later, some had gone back to NO ACCESS and permissions were off again.
What a nightmare!!!
I feel like I reached a fresh new mountain top with installing Linux Ubuntu. This is supposed to be a much more stable operating system than Windows. I sure hope that is correct. I have lost a couple weeks of time with my studies and development here on WA and that makes me maaaadd. Just kidding.
I feel this was one of those things that had to happen for my business, in some ways. If you have any experience with Ubuntu or insight on this mess, please let me know your thoughts.

Interesting! I have wondered about Linux, so I may have to take the switch if you continue to like this. I have no concept, so will look into this option first. I had the Admin. problem with MS. I just went through a whole day with MS Support. They remotely took control of my PC and fixed the Admin. problem. I was then able to do what I wanted. I know what you mean! After only ONE day I AM maaad, lol! Keep us posted, please! Lynne

The beauty of Linux is that you can run it alongside Windows, if you are leery of the environment or you can completed scrub it off your system when you upload Linux.
And.......it is not difficult to get the software and install it to your pc.
Good luck with Ubuntu. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it and how it compares.
So far, I absolutely LOVE it! So easy to navigate and hook up my printer. This is like Heaven compared to the Hell I have been going through for the last couple weeks. Every file I could not access is now available. This is a beautiful thing. Also said to have far less vulnerabilities than Windows. I sure hope that is true.
I have but that was years ago. I know a lot of crusty old IT professionals who swear by it, so it obviously has a good reputation.
Not to mention that it has been totally revived or reinvented. It is awesome. I'm so pleased with how easily it installed my printer. I have rarely had a clean first sweep installing printers with Windows.
Did I mention the clean desktop display and free compatible software? I might have to create a tech prod review website.

I feel your pain. Windows 10 has caused me so much time and headache, I am saving up for a Mac. I am glad you found your own solution.
