I happened to be tracking the position of the of some pages that I was doing research on and I got a strange notification on the dash board for SEMrush. And this is what I saw.

I found this quite strange because I had never seen it before. So I took the time to educate myself and learn something new. This the semrush sensor that was under one of the seo features offered within the SEMrush tool. So I thought my fellow internet marketers would like known to as well.

This sensor kind of works the same way as the forgein currency exchange (Forex market) works. Instead of the value of a certain currency rising or falling. The position of certain keywords do instead. Meaning that your website could rise or fall for different keywords.

This also happens when a new google Algorithm update drops. It happend on the first of August.

This is the calm before the storm and things will only begin to change for better are for worse. If your tracking your site positions offten, you may see a dip in your daily traffic within your analytics. This usally this happens anytime Google or Google's bots decide to change the Algorithm.

But this was a bit different. This was a Core update.

The changes in the core update

A google core update is a direct change in the Algorithm it'self. The core search Algorithm has between 200 to 500 factors and signals according to Searh engine Journal. Google could have changed the order of anyone of these signals.

Not anyone but Google knows which ones and Google won't tell use either.

Google won't tell use because this give everyone a chance to figure out which ones. But you already known where this is heading.

  1. Google wants you to stick to their rules

They want you to follow the guidelines that can be found on Google webmater tools. The guide offers what you should be doing and what you should not be doing. The google algorithm will never change the foundation on which it was built. And it will reward sites that follow the guidelines.

2. Quality content

This means that your content must be helpful or must contain content the people enjoy reading. Remember, we are in the business of content marketing. Which should always aim to always the best content that we can. There are many sites out there that your website has to compete with.

So must always put or best into every post we make. Always aim for your posts to be 1500 or more of relevant content aimed at helping your visitors. 1,830 words is the average amount of words that the rank 1 site has on the first page of google.

3.User intent

Focus on reason why you want people to come to your website. Even though, it's good to focus on keywords. We also need create content on why we people to come to your site in the first place. There are 3 types of people that might come to your website.

  • Navigational – The user is trying to get to a certain site.
  • Informational – The user is looking for information.
  • Transactional – The user is prepared to buy or to perform some other specific online activity.

Informational is the people that Affiliate Marketers should try to attract to our site. You do this by making your content helpful for your visitors. Your post should answer the visitors questions and educate the visitor. Give your customers what they want in order to get what you want. Make it sure that all your content is well written and easy follow. This is the foundation of good communication.

It's awesome that all this is taught at WA to begin with than having to learn it the hard way. Thanks WA for teaching me how to become a Great Affiliate

Has your site been effected by the recnt updates?

Wes, thanks for sharing! This is very detailed info. My posts are between 1000-1500 words but this shows we all need to strive for the 1800-2000 mark.

It’ll be interesting what people are able to find out about the latest changes from Google and my hope is a lot of the spam sites, particularly the ones I see on Pinterest, will get significantly downgraded with sites that are genuine with authentic content get upgraded

Your welcome, Iḿ glad I could help. Even if you only write enough content that adds up to only 1000-1500 you can always update those posts to increase the word count. I used to think that was a lot of words as well. But when you're aiming higher, you will always find something that can be improved.

Trust that Google is going to lower spam sites. The Google bots don´t like spam either. So you can always easily outrank those sites by writing better content.

Write for people and not for Google. Google will lead the people to you anyway.
