16 Years on YouTube โ What I Finally Learned
๐ 16 Years on YouTube โ What I Finally Learned
This week Youtube sent me a message on my channel reading:
โHappy anniversary! Youโve given the world 16 years of videos.โ
Sixteen years that's crazy!!!!!
That number really made me stop and reflect on my Youtube journey, all the stops and starts, the mistakes, and the lessons learned.
๐ง The Long Road
I started my channel back in 2009 and did not know anything about YouTube and algorithms or anything like that. I just thought I would give it a go and see what happened. Over the years I created random videos and would upload them and wonder why my channel was not growing. There was no clear message and I posted haphazardly, so that did not help. The whole thing was a mess. It took me a whole 16 years to figure it all out and what I needed to do to fix it.
๐ฑ The Turning Point
Earlier this year in March, I decided that it was time to move on from this channel because nothing was working. My decision was to start over, create a brand new channel. So I started to unlist the videos I wanted to upload to the new channel. As I was unlisting these videos, I noticed that I was getting more views and even new subscribers. So I kept unlisting everything only leaving one group of videos that were getting the new views and subscribers and that was the turning point for me. My channel now had a clear message, a niche, (one that I was not expecting), but things kept growing so I leaned in by updated the thumbnails, learned Youtube SEO and created videos that aligned with the channel.
And here's what happened.............
๐ Six Months of Growth.
****March 21st (2025), I was stuck at 800 subscribers for around 18 months or so.
****March 30th, I gained 200 new subscribers giving me the 1000 subscribers I needed
****April 2nd, I gained 4000 hours watch time meaning I could now apply for YouTube monetisation
**** I did not think my channel would get monetised so I did not apply straight away and waited until June, and within two hours Youtube accepted my application and I was monetised.
**** My channel now gets subscribers every single day (around 100 a week)
****This September, so far, I have over 3,600 subscribers and growing
****After 16 years of being stuck, the breakthrough came in just six months (March to Setember) when I decided to double down and take massive action.
The lesson I learned is get clear about your message, be consistent and persistent, and stay focused and the results will come, maybe not in the way you may expect, but may turn out even better than you expected, as in my case.
๐The Message I Learned ?
What I learned on my Youtube Journey can be applied to any project or situation.
I joined WA in 2022 and to be honest I have had that same scattered approach. I plan to CHANGE that, I can CHANGE it and I will CHANGE it. I just have to make it a MUST and follow through.
I hope this has been useful for somebody. ๐ค

Hey Faith,
I stumbled upon your video now from the right side related videos. That is great, you have done a fantastic thing by niching down your channel instead of posting random videos in various unrelated niches. And getting your SEO sorted was one of the most important things you could do.
Next, you should ensure you have killer thumbnails that are in a consistent theme, and then your titles must be captivating. And remember the hook must draw attention. You could also go through the YouTube training here to get more knowledge if you need to.
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and advice. I will definitely do the YouTube training here, I had no idea. I am just realising what we have here at WA and will definitely be more active and attend the trainings. But once again thank you for your lovely comment it is really inspiring and motivating. ๐๐ป๐ฆ๐ค
You are welcome, Faith. I know you will be even more successful with time, effort, and dedication. Consistency is key to build momentum and grow your audience. Have a great week further!
That is awesome, great to hear about your progress and it sounds like you are gaining some traction with your channel. 3,600 SUBS is great! Nice work on that.
I look forward to hearing about your Youtube growth as you move forward, thanks for sharing!
Hello Faith,
Thank you for sharing your story, it's appreciated and we can all learn from other people's stories.
It's interesting how your channel has grown now that you are more focused, that's excellent news. It's also great that you are now monetised and that you are regularly gaining subscribers. Let's hope this momentum keeps getting higher and higher.
I have three YouTube channels, maybe that's too many, but I do find that it's almost easier to create YouTube videos than blog posts, and it's probably gets the point across easier.
One thing I know for sure is that consistency is key, it definitely pays to show up regularly.
Wishing you all the best.
Roy
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Yes, I agree with you about blogs and videos. Wow three channels and you are also doing well here as well, well done to you. I feel really encouraged to keep going with WA and get things moving. ๐
It's a pleasure, Faith, it's good to learn, help and encourage each other on the platform.
I'm not sure if that's the best thing to do, I started off with one channel, but then another channel was to kind of document my journey, which I think is a good thing, but it does take time. The newest YouTube channel I have is a Christian/news type channel, which is slightly different, but it's something that I enjoy doing.
I think it would be great if you could stay around on Wealthy Affiliate and keep things moving. I find that by reading other people's posts and interacting with each other, it's kind of encouraging and motivating, at the same time.
Enjoy your day.
Roy
Blessings and thank you for your kind and encouraging words. Wow you are in the top 50 that's amazing. I plan to keep going with my WA business here it is very encouraging to see others like yourself doing so well here and be so supportive. ๐
