Yes, - I Might Mean YOU!

Hi there,

I just wanted to make an observation as I've got to view many of your websites, being at the part of the training that deals with leaving comments.

I'd have to say that it was also an observation when I was giving feedback in an earlier lesson.

I don't want to point a finger at anyone, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE guys, make use of that magic little button at the top of your post. It's right next to the button that adds images and has ABC with a tick underneath it.

I might be quite wrong, but it appears not many of you are using this button and I'm sorry to say, you really do need to! (Either that or the button ain't working......)

Anyway, the majority of the websites that I've come across could be awesome - except for some very glaring spelling mistakes, sentence structure and grammar.

I'm one of those people where this kind of stuff sticks out like an eskimo in the desert. And it's such a shame, because WA even give us a button to help us - you've just got to click it.

In fact, just now I came across a website where there was NO capitalization of the first letter in a sentence - which is rookie stuff.

So please use the tools that we've been so lucky to get. It really does make a difference to other people's perception of your professionalism and knowledge of your subject.

Oh, and a very Merry Christmas to you all!

Sharron

Thanks for pointing out. I use that button every time.

Good to hear, Stanley - I do too! Can't see much point in not using a valuable tool that is handed to us on a silver platter.

Awesome post, Sharon. Since I'm not a native English speaker (I'm sure that many people here can relate to that.) I always try extra hard to fix any grammar mistakes that I find. I'm also looking for someone who can proofread one or two of my articles and let me know what I should work more on in terms of grammar, punctuation, etc. If that is something that you might be interested in helping me out with I would appreciate it. In return, I could leave some comments on your website or help you out in any other way.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

More than happy to help, Alex. Just shoot me your url and I'll take a look. I'll give it to you as feedback, though. You don't want those kind of "comments" on your actual website.

But also remember to use that magic button - that will help with a multitude of issues before you need a proof reader!

The magic button does help a ton. What also helps me is a browser extension called Grammarly. I'm sure that It can help many other people too.

Sharron, I'm with you! I can also spot it immediately (not saying that I never make any typos) and have to say it really spoils the website / article if someone makes big grammar mistakes, doesn't use no capital letters etc. I can tolerate it but I don't consider that person an authority in whichever field it is then.
Thanks for this post.
And merry Christmas!

Yes, I'm the same - I would never say I don't make typos (although have to be honest - my fingernails are too long lol). The point is that we've been given a magic button and it's obvious that there aren't many people using it. I just wonder if they had maybe skipped that particular lesson? I hope it's something like that, and not folks thinking that they know better. One of my biggest issues is that I am from New Zealand (no, that's not the issue) and we use English English, not US English. However, the majority of my market will be US based, so I've got to spell for that market. Luckily, the button is US English so I have a double check for when I slip up. Thanks for our comment - and have a great Christmas!

Should have said thanks for your comment.... see? even on a post about spelling I goofed lol.

To be honest, Sharron, I've never noticed that magic button myself! I'm just a grammar nazi :) in every language I speak, English is not my native language but I hate seeing mistakes no matter if they are mine or someone else's.
I understand not everyone is like me but you are right, if there's a button, why not use it?

I haven't noticed that until you pointed at it.lol

Sharon, I have to agree. It’s not rocket science. Simple button that works well.
Merry Christmas
Joe

So pleased you agree! Just think of all those others out there struggling to set up websites - they don't have the luxury of our special "button"

There's Grammarly, which is free. Or If
they us the Site Builder it has the ABC. So, there really no excuse.
Joe

Yes, as I mentioned above, we get introduced to that button in the early lessons (I'm still there lol) but sadly, it'ss very evident that either it's not being used, or "it's broke"!

Il ain't broke!
