Hi everyone,
I'm puzzled as getting lots of new user registrations on my site, I have sent emails to thank the people for subscribing and asked if they have any quesio
I asked a similar question a while back because of New User Registration on my site. Yes, many have weird-looking 'outlook' email addresses. When I changed the settings it reduced to one in about three days.
My question is, what is the essence of the 'Register' feature on the website if we will end up disabling it because of spammers.
We don't need people to register unless we want to offer a paid subscription section. It can always be switched back on later if you decide you do want to offer this.
If someone registers as a new user but doesn't post anything in comments, you can be 99.9% sure they are there to spam. Just delete their email accounts. I have turned this off on my site. You can do this through Settings - general, then about half way down is a little box that says anyone can register. Just untick that and save.
thanks for this info, I just got a new user registration and didn't know what it was until I found this. I have deleted it and changes the settings on both of my sites.
If these are Wordpress new user registrations then you need to disable that feature. You do not need people creating user profiles on your blog and these are most likely spammers.
Go to Settings > General Settings and look for
"Membership [ ] Anyone Can Register"
Uncheck the box and save your settings.
This should disable the registration link that's on your login page and possible elsewhere on your site.
Oh and also you need to delete the users that registered.
Go to Users .> All Users > Subscribers and bulk delete the names that you see there.

HARO - Help a reported out is a good site to sign up for and worth a look. Bascailly repo
I just started using HARO and already landed two interviews. We'll see what comes from it.
Hey Sharon,
I signed up a couple of years ago to HARO. I get alerts all the time. It's also a good way to help with idea generation. I haven't used it for much of anything else. Thanks for sharing.
Best Regards,
Jim
