Too Many Interests?

Can one have too many interests? I mean life is full of miracles and I would like to explore them all. Ok...maybe not all, but many of them. Too many?

I've always had a lot of interests. Most people would say that's a good thing. But it wasn't alway easy. As a child I played football (soccer). I wasn't very talented but I loved it. When I heard about a new childrens theater group in our church, I wanted to participate there, too. I told my mom and she agreed.

But she also said to me that I would have to decide between the football training and theatre group, because they where happening at the same time! Oh, what a downer! I had a very hard time (and an argument with my mother) to accept that I could not be at two places at the same time!

The funny thing is, I'm in my forties now and I sometimes still feel like that:-)

Don't get me wrong. I feel very blessed to have a looot of interests. My love for life and all it's miracles (have you ever watched through a raindrop hanging from a leaf?) has helped me tremendously during hard times.

It's just that I sometimes have that feeling that I just don't have enough time. Time to explore all the things I would like to explore. I also often have a hard time choosing a dirction and staying on track.

Can you relate to these feelings? How do you deal with them? I would love to read your experiences in the comments:-)

Thanks!
Marc

P.S. Thank you @Richardgb for inspiring me for that post:-)

Thank you for the credit Marc.
Glad to hear you’re inspired!
:-)

You're welcome! Credit where credit is due:-)

Thanks for the thoughts.
I have a lot of interests too, and not enough time to pursue all I would like too. .

Because of that I have to set priorities a lot so I accomplish what is most important to me.

But I guess having a lot of interests is refreshing.

Refreshing, yes. And it allows for different perspectives.

I guess trusting our heart and getting clear of what is MOST important to us is the way to go. Thanks for reminding me:-)

I know that I do, Marc!

Jeff

Good to know! Thanks Jeffrey:-)

You're welcome, Marc!

Managing time and not having enough of it is one of the major challenges that a solopreneur faces. There are several ways you can attempt to address it including prioritizing, scheduling tasks, outsourcing tasks, eliminating time-wasting activities, multi-tasking (e.g. listening to audio track while in car)

Thanks for your thoughts, Hugh! I see that I already do some of the things you suggest. I listen to music, podcasts etc. in my car. Eliminating time wasting activities is a constant battle! So many distractions...But I think I have become quite good at it by asking myself if I an activity is really worth my time. Do I feel better afterwards? Or just more empty.

Hi Marc! Like you and many others here, I have diverse areas of expertise and interests, so I understand what you're saying. Those varied interests can be a blessing sometimes but not so much at other times. When I joined WA, I had ideas for several websites that I wanted to set up, but some of the long-term WA members advised us to avoid doing a bunch of websites to start. I think one person said that he set up over 50 websites after he arrived here and it got pretty crazy. So after learning the hard way, he and others suggested that we stick to one website until it's generating money before we consider setting up another site.

So... while I've not accomplished as much as I had hoped to by now (because of my other responsibilities needing attention), I am still moving forward and researching my ideas for additional websites when the time is right.

All the best to you! :)
Colleen

Hi Colleen, thanks for sharing your experiences. I also tend to get excited for new ventures very easily. Luckily I was able to resist to setting up many websites. I have to remind myself that it's easier to have and keep one big fire burning than many little ones.

Not accomplishing as much as one wishes is something I know very well. But I think sticking to our goals, despite circumstances that are not ideal, is what still moves us closer to our goals step by step.

The best to you too:-)

You're right. We have to keep focused on our goals. When we miss a goal deadline, we just restrategize and reset it and keep going forward. :)
