Online Marketing Guru?...Yeah, I'm Santa Claus

Okay. Real quick I have to vent for a few.

Its is Sunday evening and I just sat down and began to watch some t.v. Feet up relaxed and contemplating my plans for Labor Day. So I'm in a good place. Sipping my Crown and Coke watching some Duck Dynasty reruns, which is all very irrelevant to anything but I love the show....anyway...(Got that right Jack) he he.

Phone rings from some unavailable number and of course I don't answer it. Three minutes go by and I receive an alert on my phone telling me I have a voice mail. I check the voice mail and it is some rambling on about some never before released online traffic generating strategies that is making him and his students thousands of dollars in just a few days of implementing. He leaves his number and tells me to call him back if I want to learn from the 'Online Guru' himself. I'm thinking how lucky am I? The 'Online Guru' called ME(tongue in cheek). So yes, I did call him back. This has got to be golden. HA!

He answers the phone so and so with "XYZ" Marketing. I say "Yes, I was just returning your call about the untapped traffic generating techniques that have been earning you and your clients thousands of targeted leads and dollars in a few days." He says "of course ! How do you like to do your business?" I'm a little confused to what the heck he is talking about at this time. "What business?" I ask. He says "visa or mastercard."

I'm laughing hysterically at him. "Really?" I asked. "I'm just gonna cough up my card number to some turkey on the phone." After a few minutes of bantering back in forth with this guy I got him to give me an idea of what this lead getting source was and he told me. PPC....I asked him "Pay Per Click? That s your never before released online traffic generating strategy?" He told me "Yes. I then asked "if I were to purchase your training how much would that set me back?" His reply, "$279 a month". Are you Kidding ME!!

He said "If you don't want to learn from the 'Online Guru' then it is your loss. I'm going to generate laser targeted traffic to my offers and convert them into buyers. Good night."

I told him "Well Good, I'm busy as well. Christmas is only 3 months away and I'm hard at work here in the North Pole putting together little Tommy's bike." He said "Pardon me?" I said "Yeah, if your an 'Online Guru', then I'm Santa Clause. Ho Ho Ho!!" CLICK.

UGGGGHHHH!

I am so sick of the term Guru. Everyone and there mom is an 'Online Guru' it seems. What is even worse is when beginners get pulled into their B.S sales pitch.

Anyway, I went off on a little tangent. I just want new marketers to make sure they don't get taken by these scumbags. Everything Internet Marketing related you will need you can find right here in the WA community.

Hey Yodog. Kyle has a good review of EN. I was a member for a short time until I realized they aren't really selling anything but a dream. Kyle has written a thorough review on his review site. http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/the-empower-network-ripoff-dont-buy-into-the-hype I believe his review is still up. Check it out or message me and I will tell you my experience.- Seth

sort of out topic but what do you guys think of empower network. Im sure you guys heard of them

here is that link for the review of EN. http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/the-empower-network-ripoff-dont-buy-into-the-hype

I had a similar call a few years ago. Some "SEO Firm" wanted to make my site #1 in Google for clost to 5 grand. I told him I had the #1 spot for hundreds of different keywords and he was trying to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. I asked him the name of his company and pulled up the results for it. His site was #5 in the list for his exact company name behind numerous scam complaints. I laughed and hung up.

Some people.

Yes. Just sad because some people take these people hook, line and sinker. Just wish there was more accountability for false statement or claims. All these over hyped snake oil salesmen make it very hard for honest marketers to gain trust in the marketing community.

Thanks for posting. I howled with laughter. Just on a more serious note, many Members haven't used domain registration privacy, ie. Domain Privacy (GoDaddy?) or WhoIs Guard (Namecheap?) and have received phone calls purporting to be from the offices of Wealthy Affiliate. It's simply because the hosting here can be identified, and cross matched against people on http://www.internic.net/whois.html who haven't paid to opt out (although Namecheap is free for the first year). Wealthy Affiliate doesn't have Members phone numbers, so this is just another blatant scam but unfortunately some people have fallen for it. I thought I'd take this opportunity to give everyone a heads up. :) Rich.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes, I have heard of this scam happening in the C F membership and other free hosting communities.
