A Bit of Humor Relieves a lot of Stress
Now that the wife and I have a little more home time, quit the long haul trucking thing, we are allowed the opportunity to spend more time with the grandkids. One such opportunity was last weekend, a sleep over, alright, looking forward to it, good times. My role in the night's planned activities was kinda part time I guess you could say, the Mrs. at the helm & running the show. None the less, I found myself being paired up with little Zoe as Noah & Nana Bo were pre-occupied in an intense battle, lego star wars, thumbs and fingers a blur at the PS3 controls, and not to be disturbed. Meanwhile, adorable, precious little 4 year old Zoe, wearing a smile that will get only yes answers, proceeds to approach me with the following inquiry, "I'm bored Papa Scott, I don't have no one to play with", will you play with me?" I replied in kind "sure, what would you like to play?" I thought we would be playing some sort of pretend game, ok, so I'm down with that, hopefully wouldn't involve barbies & such. She's more the teddy bear is an airplane or pretend to make food and sit down to dinner type. Apparently I wasn't cuttin the mustard or not up to Zoe's standards, as every time I uttered a word or made a move I would be sternly reprimanded, and told, "a lizard doesn't say that", or "airplanes only ride horses not squirrels, silly." So I did as I was told, spoke the lines as Zoe instructed, however we never played at one thing for more than 5 minutes, quickly switching gears and moving on to the next adventure, leaving behind a trail of disarray & chaos that managed to reach every corner of our humble abode. Exhausting....
So were all having a great time, been at it for 2 or 3 hours, starting to get a little wore out myself, oh well, don't get to do this very often enjoy it while ya can. Little did I know, we's just gettin started old man. I learned something bout the youngins, when they desire your attention, there will be no half measures, they need your full and undivided attention, now! And if you feel you need a break, there is no off switch installed on the little ones, at least I couldn't find one. Exhausting......
We made it to bed time, which I believe is normally 7:00 - 8:00ish pm, but were at grandma's so rules don't apply, hope Mom doesn't read this..., we gonna be in hot water. Any howdy I seem to remember the clock reading in the area of 10:00 10:30 pm. whoops! oh well, Continuing with our blissful evening, I was tasked with Zoe's back or arm tickling requirement so that she may drift off into a peaceful slumber, much like the nightly bedtime story. Truth be told, I drifted off before her, guess I was tired, she did eventually fall asleep, I think, or pretending and doing a pretty good job of it. Noah and Nana Bo, gettin that last playstation game in, I don't even want to know what the hour is, neither do you Ash, I'm off to bed.
Now the real fun begins. It is around 3:00 am, wife sleeping next to me. I'm awoken by what sound like small creatures running a relay up and down the stairs, I go investigate, and stumble onto what appears to be a construction or remodeling site. Located in the vicinity of the upper portion of the stair case is a multi-level blanket structure, nearly complete, being created and developed by lead project engineer Noah H. as well as parts and materials procurement specialist Zoe H. ... Begs the question, "What are you kids up to?" "Is this what time you get up?" In reply "no, couldn't sleep, and Zoe saw a ginormous spider." Alrighty little vampires not requiring night time sleep, I better bring Nana in on this conundrum.
What seemed like 10 minutes, and we were all up again, ready to begin the day. We did have a fun day, doing lots of kid stuff, however by the end of the day I was exhausted and required napping.
So in conclusion, I absolutely love my favorite two little people Noah and Zoe, and spending time with them, it doesn't get any better, I think, no just kidding. Doing it full time, hmmm, that be tough, & yea I can see how the daily routine could grow to be quiet vexing, no self time, much sacrifice, I admire your stamina and ability to maintain sanity.
Any time you need a much deserved break call Nana Bo, I'll be out of town on vacation or something...., you know I'm kidding I'de be glad to have sleepovers anytime.
Wow I just wrote a thesis, words got away from me....later.....

I now have a big smile on my face. Exhausting or not, you seem to be a perfect Grandpa. Sounds wonderful and I bet you wouldn't have it any other way :)
