How Good Is Isolation.!
So how good is isolation. I am in Sydney Australia and live in a 2 story, 3 bedroom townhouse with my wife Annie and our dog Milly. The children have all left. It is not a small townhouse but it is not excessively large. We have a courtyard and garden and a double lock up garage. It's important that you know this.
I have worked from home for the past 6 years (love it) and Annie started to work from home today. We have been in proper lock down for 2 weeks with a build up period for the two weeks prior. Annie and I have spent the last two weekends at home together under isolation rules.
This is Milly looking a little perplexed at what her two humans are doing at home.
They say that your house always looks its best the day before you sell it. I can now say that it is starting to look its best during isolation.
Things we did the weekend before last:
- All gardens totally tidied, pruned and cleaned.
- The courtyard totally swept, de molded ready for winter and water blasted.
- All rubbish that had been hanging around now binned.
Things we did this weekend:
- Cleaned and decluttered all the cupboards in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry.
- Emptied all our wardrobes of unwanted clothes.
- Cleaned out the linen press.
- Polished the floor boards and gave all the tiles a fresh scrubbing.
- Emptied the food pantry of everything that had a use by date that was older than 2 years.
- Emptied the kitchen draws of items we hadn't used for 2 years.
- Cleaned the oven properly.
What we will do this weekend:
- Clean out the garage.
Other things we have done or doing.
- Going through our address book and ringing those we haven't spoken to for a while.
- Walking together (exercise) around the neighborhood instead of driving. It is amazing what we have missed over the past 10 years. What people have done to their homes.
- Watching the odd movie together.
- As we are together more, we talk more.
- We have refreshed some of our future goals.
Without isolation we would most probably have fiddled on the edges of all these things. So isolation thank you. There is plenty to do. All is good.

I think we're on day 13 of the UK lock down. The kitchen looks like it did the week after the fitters finished it and the backyard looks like it did the day after the block paving was laid. Both of these things were originally done in 2006/07.
Not much has changed for me per se, in fact, I feel as though I have less time.
Lock down is working for us though.
Excellent post. I have been a freelancer working from home for the last 10 years, so I'm quite content to be home. But I know for a lot of the 'busy' people I know, this is a little bit of torture.

Hi Stephen, yup, you learn to do a lot while at home 24/7!
Get used to it, we"ll be this way for a few weeks they say, minimal.
On the other hand, it will give you much time to focus on your business here at WA.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for sharing your isolation experience.
Fortunately, I have an allotment five minutes walk from home so that gives me walking exercise and gardening exercise.
Besides, I have a garden attached to the house, so when it's fine I can get plenty of fresh air sitting in the garden.
