Happy New Year! Total money made in 2019
Well hello there, and happy new year!
Lets take a look at 2019
2019 was an interesting and very busy year.
My husband and I own rental properties, but in previous years we had someone else managing the properties. In March of 2019 my husband and I completely took over the management, and that put a huge damper on my time available for blogging. :(
On top of that, my main website is all about a certain breed of dog, and I had one of those dogs as my personal pet, so I knew a lot about them already and had the perfect model for photos and YouTube videos. Sad story time... my tiny dog was attacked and killed by another dog at the end of July 2019. It devastated me, and it has been very hard for me to write on the website or give it much attention since.
Those two things plus a number of other excuses led me to not do much at all with my sites in 2019. I am pretty sure the number of blog posts I was able to accomplish in the year was liiiike 4?? Ya. Pretty pathetic... I was bummed about that for sure.
BUT, I wanted to do a year-end money tally anyways just to show how passive income with affiliate marketing can work and how awesome it is!
I have 25 posts total on the specific website I am talking about, ok? That is NOT a lot. Especially being that I started this website almost two years ago. I should have more like 200 posts by now, but ya know.. I have small children and other jobs AND a hobby farm to run, soooo I do what I can.
What I have realized is that quality posts really matter. Take your time, really put research and effort into it, attack that low hanging fruit we talk about here at Wealthy Affiliate, and write with personality and authority. This, along with good marketing on social media platforms, really gets your posts noticed and trusted above others.
That being said, with only 25 posts and hardly working on this website at all the past year, (and honestly not much the year before that either) I have still managed to bring in just shy of $900 this year with the site.
I am pretty happy with that number given that I probably put about 5 hours of my time into it throughout the entire year. Not too shabby!
Could I make a lot more if I put more time and effort into this and re-committed myself to it? HECK. YA. I fully believe it is possible. Not only have I still made that $900 this year, but the amount I make monthly keeps going UP. Regardless of the fact that I haven't done much.
Money Break Down
Just a quick money break down to show you where it is coming from for me.
Amazon - $660.81
A dog affiliate site I work with - $175
Google Adsense - $58.37
Total - $889.18 - in 2019
I actually have a few other sites that I work with that I haven't even checked yet to see if anything came in, but I wasn't too lucky with them in the past so I'm not holding my breath.
2020 Plans and Goals
So, needless to say, I want to try to get back on a regular writing schedule this year.
It will be hard because I am still just as busy with work and every day stuff. BUT my daughter is in kindergarten now and my son goes to daycare a few days per week now too, so I am hoping between cleaning/painting and renting apartments, oh, and caring for farm animals and cutting people's hair... maybe, just maybe, I can double my income from last year in 2020...
That is the only goal I am setting for now. I don't want to overwhelm myself, but I don't think it should be too hard. I hope :)
I did start a whole new website and YouTube channel however, I just don't have the motivation and drive to work on my dog one as my main site anymore because of what happened. Though I am hoping to keep up with it here and there. So, being that I am starting something totally new, it may be harder to double the income than I think. I guess only time will tell!
My long term goal is to have the $900 mark be more like a MONTHLY income, not yearly π and hopefully even build from there! But with the amount of time I have available to write, it may take me awhile, but slow and steady wins the race right?? π
Thats what I like to tell myself anyways.
So guys, I hope this blog post gave some encouragement that money can be made even if you don't have a whole lot of time to commit. So don't let that be your excuse. Just make the time you DO have, count, and don't be afraid to put a little personality into your posts. π
Good luck to you all in 2020!
-Rae

Great to see that you have made money and hope your other sites will see some income as well. Sorry to hear about your dog I think I almost cried out loud when I read this. I hope you can find a little more time this year to improve your sites and see some more income. All the best to you and your family in 2020.

That's still an awesome return in passive income Rae! Great job! I'm sorry to hear about your little dog, and I also know how hard and time consuming it is being a landlord! I'm certainly glad that your in for the long haul!ππ
Jeff
Thank you! and thank you for the condolences. She was my girl.
Land-lording certainly is time consuming, but just one piece of the puzzle that will hopefully help us retire early. If it doesn't kill us first... π
Thanks for reading Jeff
hey Sarae, 2019 looked great for you. i'm slightly jealous,
2020 is the year for us all! good luck :)
It will come for you too! Just keep pushing forward. :)
2020 is going to be great for sure.
I can certainly understand concerning your dog site. So sorry about your pet, very sad to hear.
They are like people and we grieve for them the same. In the last year, I did not stay as active all the time writing because I miss my dog who lived a long life 16 1/2 years. She passed last December 2018, and was my buddy at my desk each day.
There were a few other issues, yet with new goals and determination, 2020 will be even more fruitful.
Great post Rae! Great encouragement!
Take care,
Bill
Thank you Bill! So sorry to hear about the passing of your dog as well. I had never lost a dog before, smaller pets yes, but never a dog. It was much harder than I could have imagined!
Wishing you a very fruitful year indeed!

I have a German Shepherd and wanted to create a site about him, but I finally decided not to do it because I was too scared that if he passed away, I wouldn't be able to write about him anymore.
Fantastic post, thank you for sharing it:)
